We stayed in 2008 and can say the hotel has had a massive facelift, our room was very well decorated and spotless, food exellent, bar area very wellcoming, locals will talk to you all night if you let them, it may be two star but it has five star service, we had a chat with Paul, one of the owners, nice chap and very knowledgeable about the area, we will return and stay a little longer next time.

I stayed for 2 nights whilst on business in the area and would reccomend this hotel to others in the area. It is well run, spotlessly clean with nice rooms and decent food. What more could you need.

Very well positioned for our needs, visiting family and doing touristy stuff, we have stayed in the past, about eight years ago.The hotel now bears no resemblance to the hotel then, it has had a massive facelift.
The local area is rich in history which the staff are only to happy to describe, Gretna Green is only five minutes away, bus stop outside takes you into Carlisle, if you go, visit Tullie House museum its amazing we spent half a day there.
The Lakes are only half an hour away, the views are exactly what you expect.
We are going to return next year and spend more time exploring southern Scotland.

My partner and i stayed here because the hotel in Gretna where the wedding party stayed was full, we can say that it is a wonderfull place, full of interesting locals who are only to happy to chat to you and make you feel at home.
The staff are very proficient and well trained, food better than good, room lovely, crisp sheets and big fluffy towels, good selection on hospitality tray.
Wish we had more time to explore the area, it is steeped in history, i did not know about the Border Reivers or the very important Roman artifacts that have been found in an area that is north of Hadrians Wall.
We hope to return next year to explore this area better.
