“For the price - couldn't fault it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Anyone who says this place is not good value for money is talking through their xxxx bottom.
No complaints, if it was 5 star and 5 star prices I would say that some of the carpets needed replacing - other than that nothing wrong with the place, comfy bed, warm room, good food, good beer and convenient. Go there you won't be disappointed.

Local tip - if you enjoy pubs try the Bridge half mile away - now that is different - it's in a time warp - you're stepping back to the 50,s or earlier - nothing has changed - I expected to see a member of the Larkin family walk through the door - amazing everything was in black and white,

Room Tip: There was a blip with TA website I rated the service as Good (not terrible).

“Stay and eat here if you are near Topsham !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

The St George & Dragon is just a few minutes outside Topsham, it is has ample free parking, very nice rooms, a good menu and lovely real ales. The prices are a little on the high side, but cheap compared to London. The breakfast is a cold buffet, but very nice. The staff are very nice, and one lady in particular called Susan is extremely proficient at her job, and the reason I choose to eat in the restaurant whenever I stay there. She attends your table with speed, kindness, and never approaches to ask a question when you have a mouth full of food ! Good old fashioned service ! I recommend the St George & Dragon if you need to be in Topsham and like me, have become a little fed up with the pompous restaurants and staff there.

“Lovely Week-End Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We spent our annual week-end pre-Xmas break with friends at the St George and Dragon just outside Exmouth and were delighted with the excellent staff service, great food plus the comfortable and quaint surroundings. The evening meals are most definitely far above pub grub standard with some very interesting menu choices all presented and cooked to a high standard more in keeping with a quality restaurant.
The complimentary breakfast, consisting of a wide variety of cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt and above average coffee on a help yourself/eat as much as you like basis, was also brilliant.

The older Inn accommodation in which we stayed for 2 nights, all recently refurbished, was very comfortable and had everything that you would expect of an en suite room! Unfortunately our room was bitterly cold upon arrival due to the fact that the central heating had been turned off, no doubt by a previous occupant, but when this was pointed out the staff did everything possible to rectify the problem, providing additional portable electric heaters to warm up the room quite swiftly!
The only fault that could not be rectified concerned one of the boilers servicing the en suite radiator, which meant the bathroom was cold on the first evening, but once the central heating was on constantly this problem was negated as the bedroom also warmed the bathroom quite adequately!
The cost for two nights per couple with complimentary breakfast was extremely reasonable and I have no hesitation in recommending a stay here to anyone! It is a pity about the heating problem which we experienced as this is the only matter that prevents me from giving an excellent rating, but please do not be put off.

All in all this is a delightful base from which to explore the Dorset and Devon coastal regions!

“Better than average 'roadside fayre'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

At last a pub a roadside pub that seem to take some pride & care over the food they serve. Delicious & sensibly priced food, in nice surroundings, little wonder when we stopped at 2pm on a Friday afternoon the restaurant was extremely busy. An extensive menu + 'Daily Specials' + the lunchtime special price 3 course selection, loads of choice !! The fillet steak & the carrot cake are highly recommended, & without hesitation next time i'm on that road out of Exeter i'll be stopping here again.
