“Doolin: A great base for your visit to Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

Doolin is a nice place to set up a base for visiting the west coast of Ireland. Highly recommend Castleview B&B in Doolin which is on a farm but within walking distance of town (& pubs) and also within view of the amazing Cliffs of Moher. It's within close driving distance of The Burren which is definitely worth exploring for a day or more. It is also close to the city of Galway, if you want to go shopping.

“There really is a castle view”

It's hard to say with all the B&B's claiming to be "ocean views" and "castle views" this is one that truely is. Comfortable room and good breakfast (having the salmon option after endless Irish breakfasts was nice) - the home is beautiful. A few strange things though. No hot water in the shower after breakfast in the morning -- when we explained this to our host we had a very strange response and a quick "i'll let you know when its working" -- after waiting a little while, we decided to just go ahead and leave for the day, on the way out she sent us off with no mention of the hot water. I suspect it was shut off and if you didn't get your shower in prior to breakfast you were out of luck. Overall, it was very strange. It is an easy walk into town, although we often just drove not knowing where we would end up. Keep in mind this is true farmland, very few choices to eat out or anything to really do. But, if you're taking a trip to the islands and in the area to see the cliffs it would be a nice stay for a couple of nights, just be sure to take your shower early.

“Recommended!”

We stayed in Room 4 which was lovely. The bathroom was very small (with the sink being in the main room) but was clean and modern. The shower pressure wasn't great - but enough to have a shower anyway! Toiletries were provided and in good supply (proper bottles (i.e. pantene shampoo/Sanex shower gel) - not the little ones you normally get at hotels) and the towels soft.

The mattress/pillows were very comfortable and I loved that you had a soft duvet instead of the horrible sheets/blankets usually provided at some establishments. The views were gorgeous and in such a lovely location. There is also ample parking. I felt that there could have been more provided at breakfast - at least the option of more toast/tea so feel this could be improved - as you don't go away full! They didn't have a TV in the room but we were out all the time so not much of a problem - though sometimes it's nice to watch a bit before bedtime! They do have a lounge (where you also eat breakfast) that is for the guests only and they have a large TV there and books/a piano if you didn't want to be in your room.

The little village of Doolin was nice and has a pier where you can get cruises to Cliffs of Moher/Aran Islands. They also have a pitch and putt for 7 euros each which was great fun and much cheaper than anywhere else we had seen!

“Room with a view of the sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2009

Our room, while small, was clean and comfortable with had a wonderful view of the sea. It also had nice furnishings and accessories. The bathroom was small but everything worked fine. Sally Nagle, the owner, was friendly and helpful; the breakfasts were really good too.

This is an old working cattle farm overlooking the Atlantic Ocean close by and up the hill from the tiny village of Doolin. Outside the door is a path up to the Cliffs of Moher. It was a perfect place to stay for three nights while we explored the Burren and visited the lovely city of Galway for a day.

“Beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

Castle View Farmhouse is a lovely B & B located on a working beef farm. This was our first stop in Ireland and we found it to be comfortable and clean. It is located at the top of a small hill overlooking the town of Doolin and is a fairly quick walk to most of Doolin's attractions (i.e. pubs). Our room was quite small but, since we did not spend a good deal of time there, this was not a big deal. Breakfast was nice and really my only improvement would be the shower pressure.
