“Fantastic Place to Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

My hubbie and I stayed here for 2 nights, the beginning of our 3 week journey through Ireland.
Karl rescued us from a hostel nearby who tried to take advantage of us. Thank you Karl!

We had a private room and it was clean, as was the entire hostel.

Karl was helpful in so many ways, especially with his daily weather forecast and his "secret map" to the Cliffs of Moher.

We met folks from all over the globe and enjoyed their conversation and had lots of fun and laughter.

We are in our early 50's and felt right at home with the people staying there who were in their 20's.

We would stay again for sure!

“Friendly, cozy place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

My sister and I stayed there for a night and stayed in rather than going out to the pubs even though Doolin is famous for their music. We actually preferred the cozy living room. We situated ourselves in front of this fireplace in a lovely rocking chair listening to sounds of Natalie Merchant. The place was kept very clean, had hot water, free internet, laundry, and plenty of things to use in the kitchen. The bed was also quite warm. Karl was wonderful. He drew us a map so that we could get the best view of the Cliffs of Moher and for free! He was very kind. I'd definitely return!

“What a find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

O-kay, so apparently when we were passing through Doolin, it was a popular season and every B&B that we had intended to stay in was full. We hesitantly picked this hostel, unsure of what to expect. Boy did we get lucky! WE LOVED IT! Karl was a great host and even drew maps out for us about the surrounding attractions with the Cliffs of Moher. There was a huge kitchen with gas ranges, complete with dishes and fridges and microwave. There was also several big tables, a washer and dryer and a computer with internet on it. SCORE! That night, while the rain drizzled down, Karl put on some great music and lit the fireplace. What a cozy and warm atmosphere. Our room was tiny, but it had its own bathroom and little sink area and we never heard any neighbors. The showers have this funny push button in it and you have to bring your own towel. We had a great time here and highly recommend it to anyone staying in Doolin.

“A bustling and friendly place in the Burren”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

Our family arrived late at Aille River Hostel after a long, rain-soaked drive up from Co. Cork. It was a bit disconcerting to walk, dazed and confused, into a full hostel buzzing with languages from across Europe. A good night's sleep later, we quickly saw that this was a very well-run place, and were happy to have a place like this to share with fellow travelers. Karl, the owner, is an amazing dynamo of a person, able to carry on several conversations at once (as he's often called upon to do), yet always seems to have time to draw you a map of the best back way into the Cliffs of Moher or tell you which are his favorite hikes in the Burren. The location is ideal, an easy walk from several great trad music pubs and the beach. The Cliffs are a long hike or a short drive/hike away. If you like mixing with friendly people and exploring the CO. Clare landscape, this is an excellent choice.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms are nice and quiet. Wireless connection seems good throughout.

“Great hostel to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

The hostel is great. I spent here one night doing a solo trip through the Burren. The owners were charming and helpful. I've got everything I needed up to recommendations where was the best place in Doolin for dinner. Bed, shower, Internet connection and - perhaps the most important - calm and friendly atmosphere. If you are like me and enjoy quite cozy places, nature and wonderful views, I bet you like Aille River Hostel. To owners - thank you very much for great vacations.
