“Peaceful haven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed 6 nights on a Powered site in our caravan with awning. Ablution block is modern and clean, and has family shower room which would be good for those with small children. Our children (11 & 8) had a great time. Only suggestion would be for more play equipment. Go to penguin watching area at end of lighthouse rd 2 hrs before dark - for a donation we saw 7 penguins quite close and it was magical. It closes when lighthouse starts up. Claire restaurant is very highly regarded also.

“Moeraki Village Holiday Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My sister and I have met here and stayed in one of the motel units every 6-12mths for many years. She comes from Waimate and I from Dunedin. Good half way meeting place.
We always enjoy our stay as the Units are VERY clean and comfortable and Theresa & Walter great host, like old friends. It is so peaceful and quiet. An ideal spot for relaxing and enjoying view of fishing boats bobbing up & down in the tharbour

Room Tip: Differnt size Units for your requirements. Talk to Theresa or Walter about this.

“An absolute gem”

This is an outstanding place to stay. Extraordinary value, excellent and immaculate units, delightful hosts. Quite possibly the best accommodation of its type we have experienced anywhere.

“First stay of our NZ trip - a very good start!”

Stayed here on 3rd and 4th March. Drove straight to Moeraki from Christchurch Airport. A straightforward drive that takes about 4 hours. Consequently we arrived a little late but it was no problem. We stayed in a self-contained tourist unit overlooking the harbour. It wasn't large but was plenty big enough and the front consisted of one large window affording a lovely view. The place was clean and tidy. We didn't use the kitchen but it seemed well enough equipped for those that wanted to. The sunset each evening was beautiful. We were going to walk to the lighthouse but in the event we drove to it. There is a lovely walk from the lighthouse parking area out to the point tiptoeing through the seals that commandeered the path and watching the penguins along the coast. There is a hide close to the lighthouse but we found the walk to the point gave better views of the wildlife. The boulders are close by, on the opposite side of the bay, and are an unusual geological feature. The cafe above the boulders does an excellent breakfast.

“Very Clean good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

It may not look much and it is cheap ($27 for a powered site) but it is very clean and well maintained. A choice of powered grass or gravel pitches are available plus the usual motel type suites and tent sites. The kitchens are a reasonable size and very clean and the toilets are immaculate. The washing machine / dryer are only $2 each. The Internet is available at $6 for a hour but there is no Wifi. Some pitches have a view of the sea. There is a tavern some 500m away plus the village (as such). This is a very quiet place within a long walk to the boulders or a short drive (use the free car park not that attached to the café which charges). It is a nice place to stay.
