“First stay of our NZ trip - a very good start!”

Stayed here on 3rd and 4th March. Drove straight to Moeraki from Christchurch Airport. A straightforward drive that takes about 4 hours. Consequently we arrived a little late but it was no problem. We stayed in a self-contained tourist unit overlooking the harbour. It wasn't large but was plenty big enough and the front consisted of one large window affording a lovely view. The place was clean and tidy. We didn't use the kitchen but it seemed well enough equipped for those that wanted to. The sunset each evening was beautiful. We were going to walk to the lighthouse but in the event we drove to it. There is a lovely walk from the lighthouse parking area out to the point tiptoeing through the seals that commandeered the path and watching the penguins along the coast. There is a hide close to the lighthouse but we found the walk to the point gave better views of the wildlife. The boulders are close by, on the opposite side of the bay, and are an unusual geological feature. The cafe above the boulders does an excellent breakfast.

“Very Clean good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

It may not look much and it is cheap ($27 for a powered site) but it is very clean and well maintained. A choice of powered grass or gravel pitches are available plus the usual motel type suites and tent sites. The kitchens are a reasonable size and very clean and the toilets are immaculate. The washing machine / dryer are only $2 each. The Internet is available at $6 for a hour but there is no Wifi. Some pitches have a view of the sea. There is a tavern some 500m away plus the village (as such). This is a very quiet place within a long walk to the boulders or a short drive (use the free car park not that attached to the café which charges). It is a nice place to stay.

“a hidden gem”

We arrived late at night after a long drive, not sure what to expect as the info in our guidebook wasn't too reassuring. But we were very pleasantly surprised. The setting was fantastic with sea views and the campground was very well maintained with spacious pitches and a choice of motel units. The owner was very welcoming and the facilities were spotless. We would love to have stayed longer.

“Perfect cabin overlooking the fishing harbour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We stayed in a tourist cabin, a tiny but perfectly formed cabin. The large window overlooks the fishing boats in the harbour, and friendly Fleur's Place restaurant, just a stroll away.
The cabin was clean & warm, price good, the owners very friendly & helpful. The boulders, lighthouse, seals & penguins are nearby. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful beach view, excellent staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2009

We booked the hotel online and Viv sent me a very detail list of room we could choose from. We knew that we would be late due to a very packed schedule driving down from Christchurch but they didn't mind greeting us with warm welcome. It was a small tourist flat facing the beach very close to most major tourist sites. Initially we though we would be starving in this small and close to nothing fishing village but luckily they showed us a restuarant by the beach which opened til late. Forget about the food but at least it filled the stomach.
The flat itself was perfect with all you needed for overnight stay and great views. Heaters were very strong and nice. The only down side was that the shower stream a bit weak probably because it was pumped from far away.
