Melvich is a tiny village, some 20 miles West of Thurso. Luckily we did not find a B&B in Thurso and ended up in Melvich, one evening under drizzling but fastidious rain.
The house overlooks a lovely bay: pity that we had mostly fog and mist when we were there. The room was slightly on the small side: not much space to open the suitcases. But it was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom spotless and brand new.
Excellent breakfast: the best we had in Scotland. Smoked salmon, surrounded by fresh cherry tomatoes and soft and juicy scrambled eggs (farm eggs). Cutlery and crockery very refined and elegant. Breakfast room overlooks a small rear garden where hares, birds and squirrels can be see dashing around while you eat. Really a treat to start your day with.
Tony is an attentive host, very pleasant, willing to spare a lot of his time in conversation. His dog, a black Labrador to the name of Skipper, was a major hit with my son. The whole impression is of quiteness and calm and attention for the guests.
I warmly recommend it as an ideal place to visit the North-East coast of Scotland.
