“Great host, decent B&B, but a bit chilly and overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed one night at Bunratty Castle Mews B&B in December. It is conveniently located 10 minutes from Shannon airport and a mile from Bunratty Castle and Durty Nelly’s. Dolores is a wonderful, enthusiastic person who greeted us as if we were family. Our room was nothing spectacular but comfortable. However, we found the B&B to be a little chilly. We expected colder weather given the time of year but hoped we could escape the cold indoors. This wasn’t the case here. The shower wasn’t very hot either and it seemed like it was spraying around you rather than at you which was a bit unsatisfying. The bed was comfortable though and we had a delicious full Irish breakfast in the morning. Dolores also provided some great tips for places to visit. Overall it was a good stay, although we felt it was a bit overpriced at 39 euro per person per night. Other B&B’s we stayed at had more to offer for a lower price.

“Couldnt find any better if we searched for years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

From the very moment we arrived, we were ushered in with huge welcoming and friendliness. Our hosts really couldnt do enough for us, and before we knew it we were sat down with a cuppa and looking at all these leaflets and travel information with Dolores. Every morning we woke to a delicious breakfast- with a huge choice to choose from! We were made hot water bottles on cold nights, flasks of tea on cold days and hot drinks whenever we wanted. Dolores booked us a taxi and bus tours and a table on new years eve- she's always happy to help. Gary also drove us down to the lovely local bars and restaurants, which are about a 10 minute walk down the road.
The bed and breakfast itself was clean, smelt nice and had many facilities- including wifi, tea and coffee in room, guest use fridges, massage chairs, chill out room. Our bedroom was not one of the themed rooms, but non the less just right for us. The bed was comfy (and made really nicely daily), the views of the surrounding countryside were great to wake up to, and the bathroom suited us just right.
As for local tourism, the Castle and Folk Park is a must. We left it until the end of our trip- but really didnt expect the 26 acre 'village' and 'medival houses' - very fun and you can sped a whole day there. The pubs and restaurants were delicious, and we ate out every night. Our favourite was The Creamery - where, on our last night, we met Dolores and Gary who bought us a drink! Just a short bus journey away is Ennis and Limerick- which we loved spending the day out. However, the bus service wasnt too frequent and were left waiting in the cold for a while. Finally, the tour to the Cliffs of Moher (that Dolores persevered and managed to book us on) with stops along the way was highly interesting! Our guide, Joe, was very knowledgeable and it was fascinating. A well spent day out!

On our final night (we stayed 6 nights), we were left some luxury biscuits and a small bottle of champagne- which ended our memorable holiday.
It was sad to leave and I am honestly over the moon we chose this B&B over the others (we saw some of them on our various trips)- it made our holiday what it was.
The location - perfect for a quiet getaway but close enough for adventures.
The service - second to none.
The holiday - one of the best.

Callum

“clean, comfortable and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We stayed here May 2011 for only one night which was unfortunate as it was tremendous! Wished we could have stayed longer. Dolores the owner welcomed us with open arms and went above and beyond what we expected of a B & B. She treated us like friends, gave us the privacy we needed but appeared at the right times to offer assistance.

I usually read these reviews thinking "it says its clean but is this person writing the review as fussy as I am?" - well this place is CLEAN.

Breakfast was huge - nothing was too much trouble for Dolores. This B & B is situated approx 1 klm down a quiet road from Bunratty Castle and the very old Pub, Dirty Nellies (you have to visit this old pub).
We enjoyed Bunratty Castle Mews so much we intend to go back if we visit Ireland again. This was a very 'Irish' experience -Thank you Dolores for a lovely stay- meant to write this review when we got home but forgot.

“The Most Amazing B&B!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Dolores hosts the most amazing B&B we have ever stayed in - she could not be more friendly, helpful or accommodating! The breakfast we were served was just absolutely delicious - without a word of a lie we didn't have to eat for the rest of the day it was so comprehensive.......... And that is saying a lot when you have a teenage son with you! Thanks Dolores, we won't hesitate to come and stay again if we are back in your neck of the woods.

“From Cutbush to Bunratty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

This was our second visit with Dolores. As with the previous experience Dolores could not do enough for us. Great repartee, great breakfast - and so stress free.
I would definitely, unreservedly, recommend to anyone wishing good accommodation, good food and a real Irish welcome to visit Bunratty Castle Mews. You won't be disappointed.
