My parents stayed at Aherne s over the new year. They found the food and service to be excellent. They travelled from Meath to Cork by train and got the bus from the train station to the door of the hotel, stress free. Would highly recommend this hotel to everyone they hope to return this New year Eve.

Youghal is charming lil place, we stayed in Ahernes to have dinner also for the new year's eve, its homely , quite old fashion which me & my bf liked very much. Our room has a balcony although there wasnt a view to see, its ok, the room was very clean. we had dinner in their seafood restaurant. and enjoyed so much the food. the breakfast was only ok but not fab like some people said.

We spent three days in Ahernes and had a lovely time. We had a lovely large bedroom which was very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

We had dinner in the restaurant on the three evenings. All meals were beautiful and we had different seafood dishes on each night. The restaurant was relatively quiet but a good number of people were eating in the bar each evening and the same menus operate in both. The choice at breakfast was staggering and all hot dishes freshly made to order. Staff were almost disappointed if you did not consume a "hearty" breakfast ("You only want one egg").

All the staff were very helpful and attentive. Tips for places to visit were very helpful.

Youghal is a lovely old town with plenty of old buildings and the old town walls to visit. Like many Irish towns it is feeling the effects of the recession with a number of commercial premises closed. Don't let that put you off.

A side trip to Lismore is well worth the 25 mile drive. Lismore is a beautiful town with its castle and cathedral well worth visiting. Ardmore and Ballycotton are two villages also worth visiting.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights during a wedding anniversary trip to Ireland. We found both the service and the food outstanding.
We ate in the bar on both evenings and were able to choose from any menu. Ann looked after us on both nights and was helpful' friendly and made us feel at home. Dinner was excellent and we can recommend the monkfish scampi and the poached prawns. The potatoe cakes we had on the second night were unusual but delightful.
Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked with an extensive choice.
The rooms were large and comfortable with a complementing ensuite.
Perhaps the jewel in the crown was the lovely sitting room with an open fire that we were able to relax in after dinner. I have no hesitation in recommending this place.
