“Diabolical - dont ask for scrambled egg!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

the only good thing about our stay here was te coffee and croisant that we had in the bus shelter outside this kip whichh we got in the local shop.

To start with we asked for scrambled egg for our 1 year oild for her etea inthe bar and was told that the chef wouldnt make it as it was part of the breakfast menu! eventually we did get it. the following morning at breakfast my wife asked for scrambled egg with her breakfast and what came out looked like it was scraped from a dirty floor. that was when we located the local shop with the tasty croissants! The majority of the staff acted clueless and looked like they were on work experience. the place wasnt that clean either, we stayed the following night in the kilkee bay hotel and that was like a 5 star in comparison to this dive!

“Very disappointing. Will not select Lynch Hotels again.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

Hotel tired, dreary and dated. In need of major overhaul. Location overlooking sea beautiful and this is is why I selected it for a romantic night away with my husband. What a disappointment. Smell of disinfectant inside to mask other smells. Lift dangerous. Litter in lift when we arrived on Saturday afternoon and still in there when we left on Sunday morning. Rooms dated. Broken lights etc. No fan in bathroom or window. Latches broken on outside windows. Smell of cigarette smoke. Children running riot in corridors all day and night. Teenagers wrecking the room alongside ours all night into the early hours of the morning. No sleep got in our room. Breakfast very poor quality. Will never stay there again. We paid €99 room only for the 2 of us. Extremely bad value. I have stayed in new hotels in Dublin with leisure facilities sleeping 4 of us for €89 per night (clarion hotels). Also if I had my children with me, no facilities for children - except a room with slot machines!!

Thank you for your feedback in relation to your recent stay at the Ocean Cove Hotel. It is only through such feedback that we can attempt to maintain and improve the standards which we set.

We are very disappointed to hear your comments with regard to the general presentation of the hotel. Redecoration has been planned for The Ocean Cove Hotel over the forthcoming months. We have asked our maintenance department to check the latches in every bedroom. All our bathrooms have fans however they do not have any windows.

We do have a number of rooms in which smoking is permitted so I apologise for the fact that you must have been allocated one of these rooms.

In recent weeks we have allocated a number of personnel to monitor activities on the corridor to lessen the likelihood of any unnecessary disturbance. We will continue to review the effectiveness of this for the benefit of all our guests.

Your comments about breakfast have been passed on to our Head Chef and duly noted.

We do hope that these matters did not spoil your entire stay and that it will not deter you from visiting the Ocean Cove Hotel again in the not too distant future. Perhaps if you are planning a return stay you would contact us directly on guestfeedback@lynchotels.com as we would welcome the opportunity to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that your next stay with us is a far more memorable and enjoyable one. Once again please accept our sincere apologies and our thanks to you for bringing the matters to our attention.

Kind Regards

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

I have to say that I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Everything about it was disappointing. I realise it is just a seasonal hotel but it really needs a makeover.
The service was terrible, however I do not blame the staff as it loooked like they were students just on a summer job but bettter training is required.
I received a wine glass at dinner that was flithy & the replacement wasn't much better. They also didn't seem to know much about the area. The decor & rooms were very out of date. The hotel bar is not somewhere you could sit & enjoy a drink as it looks like a community hall with a make shift bar!
It really was the closest thing to 'Faulty Towers'!
Overall I was expecting alot better from a Lynchs 3* hotel.

“Stay well away”

The positives are that the hotel is located in the beautiful town of Kilkee and it looks right out onto the beach.

I stayed in this hotel between the 16th and 18th August 2010. We had an evening meal included in our package which was surprisingly nice despite the fact that the service was appalling. The hotel dining room looks out onto the sea which is good as it distracts you from the actual room itself. The menu was pretty good and had good choice. The menu did however have catch of the day listed which I was told was Hoki – a fine fish but could hardly be described as catch of the day in Ireland considering it is fished around Australia and New Zealand. The table was set with two different sets of crockery on the table.

The hotel facade is drab and depressing and looks like it hasn’t been touched since the eighties. The hotel bar is a huge open soulless room that looks like a GAA club house bar. The bar serves food which can only be described as rancid. I got one of their “gourmet” burgers and chips for lunch one day. The meal was bad but what was worse was that the hotel had run out of ketchup?? How can this happen in a hotel located in a town with a shop a two minute walk across the road....

Breakfast was a daily debacle. It was served as a buffet which was invariably cold. The tea and toast ordered before you got your breakfast usually arrived after you had almost finished you breakfast. Not once did we sit down at a table that we had a full complement of cutlery of crockery.

The rooms were old and run down. The tales and the tv in the room were dusty. The walls in the toilet were cracked and the tiles could have done with a serious scrub.

The staff are the biggest problem in this hotel. They are all under 25 and were all like people who had just started work the day we arrived. They were all badly trained and not supervised by any kind of senior management at any stage.

There is no way I could recommend anyone I know to stay in this hotel. It amazing that a place like this can actually survive when there are so many very high quality hotels around the country.

“Book somewhere else - not up to scratch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Travelled here for 3 nights on 16.08.10 and found it to be the most dissappointing hotel I have stayed in. Very dated decor and with hugely inexperienced staff. Rooms were very dingey and the Bar was filthy and very dated. Bar food was terrible and they had no ketchup!! The meal is in the restaurant was actually suprisingly nice but unfortunately it is the only positive thing I can say apart from the views from the front. Im very sorry I wasted 3 days of my holidays here especially when I know of such high standards the hotels in Ireland have to offer. This place is stuck in the 70's.

Thank you very much for providing us with your feedback on your recent stay at Ocean Cove Hotel. We greatly appreciate you taking the time and effort to provide such feedback as often it is only through such feedback that we can attempt to maintain and improve the standards which we set.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the obvious disappointment caused to you. The Ocean Cove Hotel is a seasonal property and consequently we often have a new team of personnel each season some of which would not have a lot of previous experience. They do receive many compliments from our guests about their friendliness and willingness to please.

Thank you for your kind comments with regard to the food in our restaurant – it is much appreciated. Rest assured that your comments with regard to the bar and the food served will be immediately dealt with in an attempt to prevent a similar reoccurrence.

Once again please accept our apologies to you and thank you for bringing the matters to our attention.

Sincerely,

Aoife Larkin
