“A word of caution about Rusheen Lodge in Ballyvaughan”

A word of caution about Rusheen Lodge in Ballyvaughn, Ireland. Our traveling party of four arrived at Newark Airport and before take off, due to the volcanic ash problem, our flight to Ireland was cancelled. The airlines could not book us on another flight for at least 4 days and that was not guaranteed. Due to the uncertainty of airline schedules caused by the volcanic ash, we cancelled our trip to Ireland. We immediately contacted the eight B&B’s we had booked to explain our dilemma and cancel our reservations. Seven of the eight B&B’s responded in a positive manner and refunded our fees. One B&B, Rusheen Lodge, refused our request. Follow-up e-mails to Rusheen Lodge and an appeal from the credit card company proved fruitless. Rusheen waited until the last day of the dispute to resubmit the billing, thus why this posting is so late. The volcanic ash problem had an adverse impact on many people’s lives and most handled it in a professional and understanding manner. We would still love to take our trip to Ireland and will certainly look for ideas from this site. Thank you all.

I have stayed in a few b and b;'s around ballyvaghan is this is without a doubt one of the best. There are two buildings, i stayed in the one across from the main one, the room was lovely, better than most hotel rooms.
The breakfast was really impressive, smoked salmon with scrabbled eggs i chose. absolutely class.
i will be going back. better than most hotels even

“Don't miss this wonderful lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

Rusheen Lodge is perfect in every aspect. Arriving without reservations our host made every effort to provide us with the perfect room for our family. The lodge is sparkling clean and attractive. The rooms are modern and spacious. A gourmet breakfast with outstanding fresh salmon on the menu along with other delicious breakfast foods. The dish was presented with fresh, eatable flowers from the owners garden that was photo perfect. Near Galway Bay, perfect for watching the sun go down.

“The most beautifull Guesthouse I ever seen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

We arrived quiet late after checking several B&B's in the town without luck when we found this piece of diamond. We haven't booked but the owner was very helpful, even offered a discount because of late arrival. The room we get with my friends (3 person altogether) was the most beautiful and largest suite I've ever seen with two comfortable king-size beds, alcove and ensuite. Top star cleanliness, service and kindness. We could also choose the breakfast in the morning. A highly recommended place.

“Peaceful location, spacious rooms, good breakfast choices, great value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

Rusheen Lodge exceeded our expectations for a comfortable, roomy, peaceful B&B in the midst of the beautiful Burren. Getting away from major US cities and suburbia is exactly what we had in mind. With a car, we found we were centrally located to take a ferry to the Aran Islands, drive down the coast to the Cliffs of Moher, experience fine Irish music and great pub food in near-by towns, take a walking tour in the Burren with guide extraordinaire Shane Connolly, spend a day in Galway or Connemara, or explore a dozen or more interesting places within 20 miles of the B&B. The host Karen and her assistant Deidre were friendly, helpful and served up fine breakfasts every morning. We were happy with the suggestion from Rick Steve's guide book to try Rusheen Lodge when in the area and highly recommend it to others who have a car and a desire to explore the land and culture.
