“Quirky and Fun”

Four of us availed of 2nights B&B + 1 dinner. We got two huge rooms on the top floor of the new end of the hotel with two double beds and suite area to sit down on, lots of space to relax in, it was a bit of a walk to the room but no trouble really. The hotel is an old house with lots of quirky features, after reading review on Trip Advisor I knew what to expect so was not disappointed to be opening lots of huge door and exploring the house.

Breakfast was hit and miss, the hot food was made in bulk and left in ban bourée's for up to 2+hours if you came at the last minute. It did the job but it wasn't on the gourmet side of cooking regarding a full Irish breakfast. I was made porridge when I asked so was very happy and they had a good selection of bread, toast, fruits, juices etc and of course the ever helpful Mags was on duty when we were there for breakfast and dinner.

The dinner was nice and I went for the leg of duck (tasty) and the steak which was cooked as we asked for (med rare), the meat was good once we dispensed of all the surrounding grizzle. Lots of creamy mash and veg on hand. The chocolate cake torte was voted the best between the four of us. Our first choice of wine was not available.

The inappropriately named 'Cocktail bar' did not serve cocktails which was a surprise. The bar staff were helpful when we could find them. They need to watch out as when they take their smoke breaks all the smoke comes in from the door and fills the bar, may as well have just smoked inside.

One of us was staying in the hotel during the day while the rest of us went off and despite having the "Do not disturb" sign on the door the cleaners came in three times to try make the bed while they were still in the room (once while in the bath!).

The leisure centre and gym was excellent and they provided free swimming hats for us to borrow. Jacuzzi and sauna could have been slightly hotter. Biggest disappointment was the opening times of centre were not convenient as they only opened at 9:00am and we were looking to get in from 7:30am before our day started as is usual with most leisure centres.

Would we come back? Yes! A lovely spot and friendly atmosphere in a quirky old manor house. If the staff can keep on striving to improve (they are always being watched whether they realise it or not) they will definitely stay above water in these tough times. Thanks Dundrum house hotel for a great weekend!

Room Tip: Family rooms are huge!

“"Made our Wedding Day Magical"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We got married on August 1st last year in Dundrum House Hotel, and we have to say it was a wonderful experience. From the first time we arrived to view the hotel as a potential wedding venue, until the actual day itself, the service was second to none. On meeting Deirdre, the wedding planner, we were convinced she would stop at nothing to make our day very special, and was extremely helpful to us in the months coming up to the wedding.
The hotel, a beautiful Georgian building (formally a convent) is set in a beautiful mature landscaped area with the Glen of Aherloe as a backdrop along with a golf course adjoining it. A photographer’s dream, weather permitting! Many of our guests availed of the self catering apartments. These were particularly convenient for families as they had ample space.
The day itself went like clock work, thanks to Deirdre and all her team who were fantastic. As a wedding couple we knew we were in the hands of an experienced and competent setup. This was very important as many of our married friends emphasized the importance of relaxing and enjoying the day and in all the rushing around before the special occasion this can sometimes overlooked. The staff were always two steps ahead and made everything run smoothly. They stopped at nothing to cater for everyone and make the guests welcome. The food was simply superb, and we had a wide ranging menu. Many of our guests commented on the exceptional culinary standard (and generous portions!), how homely the atmosphere was and how unique occasion was. We felt that the dedication of the hotel staff combined with the with the beautiful setting contributed in a large part to this.
We viewed a lot of potential hotels for our wedding day and are convinced that we landed on our feet after choosing Dundrum Hse. Hotel as our wedding venue. It is a family run establishment and we felt that this made a huge difference in ensuring that our guests would be very well looked after.
Dundrum house has everything to offer from the location, to the food, to the staff, and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to any one for their wedding! Ciara & Eddie

“Wedding oct 2011”

We had a cicil ceremony here and then and evening reception and a hog roast the next day.

Deirdre was a rock for us, before, during and after the wedding, she couldn't do enough and nothing was too much trouble. We had a perfect day and the food was amazing in the evening, lots of the guests said that it was the best that they had had at a wedding and there were second helpings too.... The hotel in general is an amazing place, large bedrooms, publin areas are clean and flowers everywhere and every fire was lit. The grounds are well kept and we used the gym a lot (part of the wedding package) which has good equipment and the pool is a good length and warm.

We had a hog roast in 'the venue' which was a bit of a let down with staff not knowing what was going on and having to be asked to poor wine, organise plates and the menu wasn't what we had agreed. They apologised afterwards saying that there had been a misunderstanding but in general the day went ok.

Overall i would definatly recomend this hotel for a wedding or just for a weekend away. definatly worth the money

Room Tip: all the ones that i have seen were fab and the houses are very spacious
