I have worked in the travel industry for many years, and have to say that this hotel ticks many boxes.
For a hotel located in a very rural and relaxing location, you can sometimes fall into the trap of expecting a tired old hotel with staff set in their ways.
Not at this hotel. From the outside it has a stunning brick built entrance leading to an enticing and compact reception. Staff were polite and welcoming.
I walked up an impressive wooden staircase to find an immaculate room greeting me. I don't believe there was one spec of dust anywhere to be found.
Their was a decent sized lcd tv, and a wonderful tiled bathroom with underfloor heating.
The icing on the cake is the beds, as they are the most comfortable you will find anywhere. There are even alternative pillows to choose from in room.
For dinner the attached restaurant is great, although for better value and atmosphere in low season i would head for the bar. Having said that the food was tasty and plentiful, and cooked to a high degree.
Glengarriff is stunning and can be busy in peak season, as well as very quiet in low season.
All in all a great hotel that I would happily return to. My only gripe is that there is hardly any staff on hand to help in low season, although this is an understandable way for a hotel to maintain healthy profits when trade is at its lowest.
