In an answer to à previous reviewer, the owner Margaret blamed the said reviewer for not being truthful, so i will try to be as honest as possible here.
The b&b is conveniently located, just off the Kerry Way and à 3minute walk to the Waterville town centre. The house is nice, even if You might think on arrival that the Old Câblé House is the lovely old brick building next door, it's not, the b&b is not historic in itself.
We had à friendly enough welcome from Margaret, but nothing compared to most of the places we have stayed in along the Kerry Way...
Our room was big, with à very comfy bed, the only snag was à hole in the ceiling which showed electric wires...
The bathroom was great, the walk-in shower is indeed huge and there is shower gel, shampoo and conditioner to help yourself from.
There is no tv in the room, and no tea or coffee facilities.
Such facilities are to be found in the sitting room, but their location, next to the restaurant / breakfast room, makes it very awkward for the guests to use. You don't want to have à cup of tea next to customers eating fish in the restaurant really...
Awkwardness is pretty much the feeling we had all along during our stay unfortunately: once we arrived we asked Margaret about the restaurant menu, she told us it wasn't ready yet, so we asked for an idea of the dishes they would normally serve, she said it depended, so in turn we inquired about the price range we could expect, she replied that it depended... No argument there, but we were left with thème impression that we weren't particularly welcome in the restaurant...
We had à great dinner at the Huntsman, so i guess it was for the best...
The breakfast room is big and bright. For breakfast we had what our waiter said (honest bloke) instant coffee and orange juice.
We had trouble deciding whether thème banana pancakes were homemade, still can't be certain, but i would say no.
My smoked salmon breakfast looked superb but its taste was to be à real disappointment..
What i still can't swallow is the 12€ packed lunches, that's 12 each. In the emails we had exchanged Margaret had advertised her "delicious" packed lunches. We thought it was à bit steep (usually it is between 4 & 7 euros along the Kerry Way) but given the restaurant's reputation, we said why not...
I have hardly ever felt so ripped off in my life: à triangular ham and butter sandwich, an apple, water and à budget fake mars bar, all this came in an unashamed Centra paper bag. We had already paid, so i wasn't going to argue, but this was worth anywhere between 2 & 3 euros, paying double the retail price, ok, but quadruple?...
And off course there was nothing "delicious" about this lunch...
By the way if You want to wash your clothes, it is 14€. Really.
The rooms are great, fantastic shower, the b&b is well located, but i would not recommend this place simply because we felt ill at ease there and that the packed lunch épisode made me feel cheated...
