“Very disappointed!!!”

We booked this as the second night of our honeymoon ( half way spot around the ring of Kerry and easy access to Valentia/ Skelligs etc.) and on looking at the website for the property... we were super excited about it (http://www.oldcablehouse.com/). The website boasts beautiful images of food and country chic and also tells you about a lovely restaurant in house for evening meals ( E27 p/p).
Although when we arrived- the exterior is unrecognisable.. you park in the car park at the back of the house and you wonder are you in the right spot. When we went to door.. we went to the restaurant in search of anyone and was greeted by Mrs Brown who was very friendly.
Our room - a double bed- flat pack furniture ( wardrobe, 1 bed side and a desk) and large bathroom- suitable for less abled people with shower etc. Room had no tea making facilities & NO TV and was located right beside door and across from "restaurant"on ground floor with no privacy ( had to pull curtains) as everyone passed that window on teh way to car park. Tea making facilities were in lounge which you had to go through "restaurant" to get to. When we enquired about evening meal.. we eventually met Alan- who was a nice friendly man who scribbled out the dishes and prices on a sheet but as we couldnt really understand writing and didnt really know what it would be like- we declined their kind offer and went down town to beautiful reaturant highly recommended on this ( sheilin). In general the B & B did not match anything on the website.... ( well done on website) and made us feelslightly in the way and awkward. Breakfast was quite nice the following day and the guy working as a waiter was extremely friendly... has great potential!! Not worth €75

“Nice bed, décent breakfast, but i still can't get over the 12€ packed lunch...”

In an answer to à previous reviewer, the owner Margaret blamed the said reviewer for not being truthful, so i will try to be as honest as possible here.
The b&b is conveniently located, just off the Kerry Way and à 3minute walk to the Waterville town centre. The house is nice, even if You might think on arrival that the Old Câblé House is the lovely old brick building next door, it's not, the b&b is not historic in itself.
We had à friendly enough welcome from Margaret, but nothing compared to most of the places we have stayed in along the Kerry Way...
Our room was big, with à very comfy bed, the only snag was à hole in the ceiling which showed electric wires...
The bathroom was great, the walk-in shower is indeed huge and there is shower gel, shampoo and conditioner to help yourself from.
There is no tv in the room, and no tea or coffee facilities.
Such facilities are to be found in the sitting room, but their location, next to the restaurant / breakfast room, makes it very awkward for the guests to use. You don't want to have à cup of tea next to customers eating fish in the restaurant really...
Awkwardness is pretty much the feeling we had all along during our stay unfortunately: once we arrived we asked Margaret about the restaurant menu, she told us it wasn't ready yet, so we asked for an idea of the dishes they would normally serve, she said it depended, so in turn we inquired about the price range we could expect, she replied that it depended... No argument there, but we were left with thème impression that we weren't particularly welcome in the restaurant...
We had à great dinner at the Huntsman, so i guess it was for the best...
The breakfast room is big and bright. For breakfast we had what our waiter said (honest bloke) instant coffee and orange juice.
We had trouble deciding whether thème banana pancakes were homemade, still can't be certain, but i would say no.
My smoked salmon breakfast looked superb but its taste was to be à real disappointment..
What i still can't swallow is the 12€ packed lunches, that's 12 each. In the emails we had exchanged Margaret had advertised her "delicious" packed lunches. We thought it was à bit steep (usually it is between 4 & 7 euros along the Kerry Way) but given the restaurant's reputation, we said why not...
I have hardly ever felt so ripped off in my life: à triangular ham and butter sandwich, an apple, water and à budget fake mars bar, all this came in an unashamed Centra paper bag. We had already paid, so i wasn't going to argue, but this was worth anywhere between 2 & 3 euros, paying double the retail price, ok, but quadruple?...
And off course there was nothing "delicious" about this lunch...
By the way if You want to wash your clothes, it is 14€. Really.
The rooms are great, fantastic shower, the b&b is well located, but i would not recommend this place simply because we felt ill at ease there and that the packed lunch épisode made me feel cheated...

“Terrible! Avoid if possible”

Stayed here for one night and couldn't wait for morning to get out of there. Was met by what I presumed was the owner (he didn't introduce himself). Not very friendly or welcoming. House is unfinished looking - wires hanging from ceiling, awful smell of damp pervading the whole house. Does not look anything like it does on website. Was very tempted to sleep in my car. Worst place I have ever been in.

“A Great welcome for us & our dogs.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We had a lovely few days in a clean, neat & comfortable room, with separate parking & entrance door so other guests did not have to contend with our dogs. The beds were warm & comfortable & the shower was hot. The guest lounge was welcoming & tea or coffee was available at any time. Breakfast was good too.
