“Atlantic Shore,Bantry,County Cork,Ireland”

In July,2011, we stayed at Atlantic Shore for two nights. Our host, Maggie Doyle, was as welcoming as any host could ever be. There is fresh coffee and tea upon arrival. The rooms are lovely. The view is spectacular. Bantry is a grand Irish town, conveniently located, great culture and history, exceptional church, lovely shopping, and the friendliest people you will ever meet. The breakfasts are really quite remarkable. First class in every way.I give this the highest recommendation!!

“Best place to be pampered”

My sister and I stayed with Maggie for 5 days and it was hard to leave in the end. We felt so totally pampered. Usually we are the ones to wait on others and it felt so nice to be on the receiving end. Our room was spotless with a beautiful view towards Bantry Bay through our large picture window. We had 3 twin beds and the extra one came in very handy as a place to put our luggage; although there were 2 large wardrobes in the room. The room had a TV with limited channels; but we were happy to have one for morning news and weather. The grand breakfast was hightly anticipated each morning. Maggie sets a gorgeous table with beautiful china - she goes all out!! It is truly a work of art. The selection of foods was amazing. What to eat first? We wanted to try it all, it was so tempting. Her fruit salad is legend - so many types of fruit and so fresh. I loved putting some plain yogurt on it and also a couple of spoons of her "secret sauce" - a delicious peach and almond puree. Yum!! I can still taste it. I am still pining for her homemade blackberry jam and those scones!!! Every bite was a little taste of heaven. Then there's her brown bread...and the perfectly cooked eggs and rashers. It was always sad when it came to the last bite. Oh well, there was always the next morning. We loved having Maggie pop into the breakfast room for a little pre-breakfast chat. We were always her "darlings" or "lovelies" A person could get used to such special treatment. Since we were missing our dogs at home, a real treat was meeting her 2 darling dogs, Ernie and Basil and the neighbor's dog Scruffy. It was so nice to get our dog "fix". Maggie keeps her dogs contained though, and waits for someone to request to interact with them. All good things must end as they say and it was finally our time to continue on with our travels. We will always have fond memories of our stay with Maggie and hope to return someday. Atlantic Shore is in such a great location and so handy to all the peninsulas. We highly recommend this B&B to anyone would like to be treated like a Queen (or King). Thank you, Maggie for a wonderful time. Give Ernie, Basil and Scruffy a nice pat on the head for us!

“Not quite what we expected after all the glowing reviews”

We booked here because of all the wildly positive reviews on Trip Advisor, but our experience was a bit different. We were met by a surly gentleman, who remained reluctant every time we dealt with him. We found the proprietress very full-on, so it was difficult to relax around her. The shared breakfasts were also a bit of an ordeal: 8 strangers sitting around a small table in a small room in the morning can be stressful.

Our room was very clean, and smelling strongly of bleach from the bathroom. The small view of Bantry Bay was obscured by a series of 4 x 4 vehicles parked right outside the window.

If you don't mind a very dominant hostess, and lots of interaction with other guests, then choose this place, but if you are looking for somewhere relaxing, this may not be the place for you.
