“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

I travelled to Ireand to do a beekeeping day with Tim Rowe (Rose Beehives) at Ballylickey. I stayed for one night at Bantry House and it was just as everyone has described. RIght from my first email enquiry to which I had a fast and friendly response, it was an lovely experience, The nicest thing was the warmth of the welcome.(Thanks Sophie!) As others have said in their reviews, it feels very comfortable and not at all pretentious but it still manages to be luxurious in a very down to earth way. My room was peaceful, my bathroom had plenty of hot water, and the breakfast was delicious.
Bantry House is all round the best place I have stayed in. Thankyou to you all.

“The absolute dream come true wedding thanks to Bantry House”

Having got engaged at Christmas and setting the date for July 30th plus the fact that we live in Dubai and had 3 days in Ireland to decide on a venue we were faced with a 'challenge'. We visited Bantry House on a very cold December day and immediately knew that this was the magical venue we had dreamt of. My fiancee had visited the house as a child and had fond memories and I was blown away as soon as I saw the house even though it was shut up for the winter. Right from the start Sophie and her father were accommodating and did everything to help us (despite the fact they were actually closed when we visited and Sophie heavily pregnant with the lovely Jacob) organise a dream wedding. The accommodation is absolutely superb and beats any 5 star hotel hands down! The breakfast amazing and the hospitality second to none. As for the wedding venue details....words really cannot describe what an amazing place this was. It really was the pinnacle of our wedding. Each and every person who was there and those who werent and have so far seen our unoffical snaps had their breath taken when they saw the venue. I cannot thank Sophie and her family and team enough. They really went over and above in terms of service and EVERY little detail was thought of (believe me I am a stickler for detail!) At the end of the evening the staff even ferried people to their hotels in their cars!!! We now have only one problem....we seem to have only one destination as an option for our July holidays for the rest of our life as my 'husband and I' could think of nowhere better to spend our anniversaries. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

“Absolute Perfection!”

My sister and brother-in-law chose this stunning location for their wedding.

Following a beautiful wedding ceremony at St Finbarr’s Oratory in Gougane Barra the reception was held at Bantry House.

I was one of a privileged number of the wedding party who enjoyed a 2 night stay in the superb guest house accommodation.

The bedrooms were elegant and the atmosphere was one of total relaxation. The breakfast was excellent with everything you could possibly wish for and more.

I cannot imagine anywhere more perfect to hold a wedding reception; the library was a beautiful setting with its candlelit candelabra and marvellous paintings.

Many thanks to Sophie and her family and staff for their wonderful hospitality which made a special weekend absolutely perfect!

“Out of this World!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

We stayed here in June for one night and wished it was more. There is so much to write. First, the House itself is a myriad of personal artefacts from all over the world, owned by all decendents from the 1st Earl of Bantry. The present owners run the House and couldn't be nicer. It's far removed from the typical Big Houses run by Heritage trusts etc-it is far more personal and therefore magical. The guest entrance is just off Bantry main street so it is really close to town but it's a private walkway only for guests which adds magic to the place. You literally disappear into the Kingdom!
The Gardens are magnificent and the website doesn't do it justice. As other reviewers wrote, the beds are fantastic, I found it hard to do anything as I completely unwound here. The bedroom was very big , with a view of the majestic gardens to the front, and a window seat to read with views to the stables at the back. The bathroom was modern and luxurious, with robes provided. Breakfast was assorted fruit, breads, cold cuts and Irish breakfast etc. We were only one of three couples staying here. There is a small private area for guests only with two sofas, small library, roaring fire and a snooker room with honesty bar adjacent to this. We had the whole place completely to ourselves. I spent the evening in front of the fire with a couple of books sipping wine and my partner tested his skills at snooker for a few hours. Hard to beat this kind of privacy and relaxation. Better than any spa break!
