We stayed here in June for one night and wished it was more. There is so much to write. First, the House itself is a myriad of personal artefacts from all over the world, owned by all decendents from the 1st Earl of Bantry. The present owners run the House and couldn't be nicer. It's far removed from the typical Big Houses run by Heritage trusts etc-it is far more personal and therefore magical. The guest entrance is just off Bantry main street so it is really close to town but it's a private walkway only for guests which adds magic to the place. You literally disappear into the Kingdom!
The Gardens are magnificent and the website doesn't do it justice. As other reviewers wrote, the beds are fantastic, I found it hard to do anything as I completely unwound here. The bedroom was very big , with a view of the majestic gardens to the front, and a window seat to read with views to the stables at the back. The bathroom was modern and luxurious, with robes provided. Breakfast was assorted fruit, breads, cold cuts and Irish breakfast etc. We were only one of three couples staying here. There is a small private area for guests only with two sofas, small library, roaring fire and a snooker room with honesty bar adjacent to this. We had the whole place completely to ourselves. I spent the evening in front of the fire with a couple of books sipping wine and my partner tested his skills at snooker for a few hours. Hard to beat this kind of privacy and relaxation. Better than any spa break!
