Had meal in hotel fri nite - catered well for large numbers and food lovely!! Any special requests were accommodated no problems - no matter what we wanted! Staff were really helpful. Lovely breakfast both mornings and also recommend the cocktails in the evening! Will defo visit again. Anyone considering a large group get together should defo stay here. Thanks guys!!

“Hen Party”

We booked a package with this hotel in January for a hen party. There was 40 'hens' in total! The beauty of the package was that we actually booked out the entire hotel so it was only ourselves all weekend (the doors were not open to the public at all). We arrived Friday night to a lovely fire in the lobby and were met by the owner - it is such a cosy and quaint hotel, ideal for what we wanted! We had dinner in the hotel friday night which was lovely, the staff were very helpful and accomodating. We were able to arrive down in our pjs to breakfast both mornings as it was only ourselves - an added bonus! The breakfast was very good, made to order and very fresh - just what we needed! The hotel is so central, it is really at the heart of Clifden so no taxis were needed all weekend! I will definately be recommending this as a perfect location if you are in a big group or just want a small family run hotel to hide away in. The package itself was amazing value! I will definately return!

“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I stayed here one night at a weekend on a business trip just before Christmas 2011. I liked the hotel and will have no hesitation about returning. It was obviously a quiet time of the year but I felt very welcome. Bar was lively.I enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. Room was a little outdated (which personally I don't mind) but the bed gave me a great night's sleep. Having experienced hotels of all classes in most parts of the world I would rate Alcock & Brown as a comfortable traditional hotel that offers excellent value for money especially off-season. The hotel is centrally located, the staff are friendly and helpful and everything is spotlessly clean.

“An average Bed and Breakfast calling itself a Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Smelly damp corridors and rooms, overpowering use of those 'smelly plug-ins' . The bar was dead and without character. No menu for breakfast and the 'full Irish' would have been better if cooked by a crowd of boy scouts in an open field.

One key member of staff on duty most of the time. This person was always professional, friendly and competent. That does not make up for the lack of staff and skill behind the scenes. An amateur set up, run by amateurs. They appear to be trying to do anything to keep afloat, but unfortunately if your accommodation is described as a hotel, you expect a hotel fit for the 21st Century, and not something from the 1970's.

Total refit and new management required.

“Irish hospitality”

The Alcock and Brown is a traditional Irish hotel, centrally located in Clifden, spotlessly clean room and bathroom. It is not decorated in a modern style, but for me, more important is the greeting you receive and the general friendliness of the staff.
It is good value for money and I would return.
