“Gracious, tranquil, welcoming...”

Our recent stay at Clonunion House was simply perfect. Mary is an extradordinary hostess - friendly, amiable, knowledgable. Her ornate home feels cozy from the moment she brings out a tray of tea and biscuits as a welcome.

Our room was stunning - from the moment we walked in, our jaws dropped and I could not stop saying "Wow!!". The room (it would be more accurate to describe it as a suite) was beyond spacious, and was decorated with gorgeous antiques. The bed was comfortable, the pillows soft as clouds, the duvet a perfect cocoon of warmth during the chilly nights. There was even a space heater in the room, just in case the extra heat was needed. Three incredible nights' sleep in total darkness and quiet left us well rested and ready for the day's adventures!

Our bathroom was enormous, modern and sparkling. Our only complaint would be regarding the slightly low water pressure, but that only encouraged an extra long, decadently hot shower!!

Breakfast was delicious!! At our request, Mary provided a Full Irish each morning - even adding baked beans for my British husband!! Mary is incredibly accommodating - we had breakfast at a different time each morning, depending upon the plans we had for the day.

When we returned in the evenings, Mary enquired about our day, offered coffee or a drink, had a fire ready in the parlour and had the telly on (please note, our room did not have a television, which was a DELIGHT!) so we could catch up on the news.

Clonunion House is set upon 130 acres of working farmland. The grounds are well maintained, and a pleasure to stroll. The location is just outside of Adare Village - a very short drive, or a leisurely walk. Clonuinion House is the perfect place to step back in time, relax and unwind. (Lastly, Clonuion House is also located within 30 minutes drive to Shannon Airport!!)

“humungous rooms with grounds to spare”

Easily reached on the east side of Adare, this farmhouse takes one back to the stately dimensions of a bygone era. The rooms are extraordinarily large and roomy and the conveniences are modern enough that you don't feel at all misplaced in time. Mary is an attentive and considerate host and the breakfast is diverse and generous enough to satisfy any appetite. We only stayed one night as we traveled from the Dingle Penisula to Shannon Airport and its proximity to Shannon (40 minutes) is another major plus for it.

“A gem in the countryside”

Spent one night at this lovely tranquil B & B. Mary the owner was absolutely lovely, a fantastic hostess and so obliging, she drove my friend and I down to the Woodlands Hotel where we had a dinner reservation. The house which Mary and her family bought 30 years ago from the Dunraven family has great history and we would have liked to have heard more about it if our stay was longer. Our room was lovely and big and very much in the old style. It was abit like being back in time. It didn't have tea & coffee making facilities but we were offered some the moment we arrived. We got a lovely breakfast, plenty of everything. If you wanted a few quiet days away either for a romantic break or purely just to to be on your own then Clonuion House is the place to go.

What a wonderful surprise staying in an older farmhouse with beautiful grounds, setting, relaxing furniture , great conversation and hostess. Mary Fitzgerald was a gem. The grounds were so charming and we never felt like we didn't belong. Be sure to check out the horses' memorials.

“Tranquil and Romantic”

Mary Fitzgerald and her husband own a beautiful B&B just far enough from the hustle and bustle but close enough if you want a change of pace. Their home which is 240 years old and located on a 130 acre working farm, is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. Mary was a delight and served us a delicious breakfast every morning. We stayed there 6 nights and all of them were wonderful. We are both photographers and were permitted to stroll through the grounds to take some awesome shots. The bedroom was very large and comfortable. The bathroom was also very large with plenty of room to two people as well as more than needed Hot Water from the shower. If you want a romantic getaway that is peaceful and restful this would be the perfect spot.
