“A wonderful, underrated guesthouse - looking forward to returning”

My family and I shared a family room in this gorgeous, traditional, gerorgian house run by the Fitzgerald family. The family room we shared is spacious filled with beautiful antique furniture, large comfortable beds and the shared sitting room is very inviting. We had a lovely homecooked full Irish breakfast before leaving the next morning. This is the ideal location from which to explore Adare and the town's environs. The Carty family.

“Perfect B and B. Wish we could have stayed longer. Ha”

What a beautiful piece of property. Mary was just delightful and charming. The room was gorgeous and large furnished with antiques and with a king size bed that provided me with the best sleep in weeks. The shower stall was compact yet spacious and modern by design. This house was built in the late 1700s and ensured that the only noise you heard was yours. The location is less than a 5 minute drive from town, but too far too walk home from the pub safely...no sidewalks. Breakfast was included, and Mary was a wonderful and accommodating cook. I wish my wife and I had one extra night there just to relax and recharge.

“Enjoyable stay in a different kind of b&b”

Clonunion House is a working farm just outside Adare, with an interior that doesn’t seem to have changed much in the past 100 years (except that the bathroom is up to date - but no tv, telephone, or wifi). But it made a nice break from the usual run of modern, purpose-built, suburban b&bs; and the hostess was part of the charm of the place. It may be a little too far from "downtown" to walk; but that’s just as well, for since the freeway from Dublin ends just east of here, all the N21 traffic is channeled right Adare, which must affect all the downtown B&Bs. In any case, I appreciated the peace and quiet of this location as well as being able to spend the night in a century-old, charmingly furnished country manor house.

“Gracious, tranquil, welcoming...”

Our recent stay at Clonunion House was simply perfect. Mary is an extradordinary hostess - friendly, amiable, knowledgable. Her ornate home feels cozy from the moment she brings out a tray of tea and biscuits as a welcome.

Our room was stunning - from the moment we walked in, our jaws dropped and I could not stop saying "Wow!!". The room (it would be more accurate to describe it as a suite) was beyond spacious, and was decorated with gorgeous antiques. The bed was comfortable, the pillows soft as clouds, the duvet a perfect cocoon of warmth during the chilly nights. There was even a space heater in the room, just in case the extra heat was needed. Three incredible nights' sleep in total darkness and quiet left us well rested and ready for the day's adventures!

Our bathroom was enormous, modern and sparkling. Our only complaint would be regarding the slightly low water pressure, but that only encouraged an extra long, decadently hot shower!!

Breakfast was delicious!! At our request, Mary provided a Full Irish each morning - even adding baked beans for my British husband!! Mary is incredibly accommodating - we had breakfast at a different time each morning, depending upon the plans we had for the day.

When we returned in the evenings, Mary enquired about our day, offered coffee or a drink, had a fire ready in the parlour and had the telly on (please note, our room did not have a television, which was a DELIGHT!) so we could catch up on the news.

Clonunion House is set upon 130 acres of working farmland. The grounds are well maintained, and a pleasure to stroll. The location is just outside of Adare Village - a very short drive, or a leisurely walk. Clonuinion House is the perfect place to step back in time, relax and unwind. (Lastly, Clonuion House is also located within 30 minutes drive to Shannon Airport!!)

“humungous rooms with grounds to spare”

Easily reached on the east side of Adare, this farmhouse takes one back to the stately dimensions of a bygone era. The rooms are extraordinarily large and roomy and the conveniences are modern enough that you don't feel at all misplaced in time. Mary is an attentive and considerate host and the breakfast is diverse and generous enough to satisfy any appetite. We only stayed one night as we traveled from the Dingle Penisula to Shannon Airport and its proximity to Shannon (40 minutes) is another major plus for it.
