First and foremost, I wish to point out that I have never posted a review on Tripadvisor before. I felt that our recent trip did warrant it though.
We had a two and a half hour drive from our home to Adare, arriving on Saturday evening. We were staying in the old manor part of the hotel in a deluxe room. Check in was very efficient The concierge took us up to our room which was up a couple of flights of stairs (probably not advisable for anyone with walking difficulty). We got such a pleasant surprise when we saw the room. It was everything we needed after our journey – a real oasis of peace. There were three almost floor to ceiling rooms overlooking the main entrance of the hotel. The décor was in warm soft tones and there were several lovely lamps lit. The room was huge with a lovely comfortable sitting area at an open fire (not functioning!!). Bottled water and ice provided. The bathroom was a lovely size and impeccably clean with all the usual toiletries provided. There was great storage space in the room. Our bed was so comfortable and also huge. When we returned from our short stroll around the grounds of the hotel, the bed had been turned down and chocolates, slippers and robe left for us. Just the little touches expected from a luxury hotel but always a nice surprise.
We ate in a lovely pub in Adare village on our first night and in the hotel restaurant on the second night. To review the restaurant would be just impossible – all I can say is wonderful to everything – setting, staff, service, food, ambiance etc. Breakfast was perfect and catered for everyone’s taste.
A lovely lazy day was spent on our second day starting off with a full body massage which was carried out in the golf-clubhouse as the treatment rooms were under construction. I would have to say that I was disappointed with the treatment room. It was just a standard bedroom with the bed removed and a massage table set up. However, I suppose we had to take into consideration that it was a temporary arrangement. Luckily, the massages we had were part of our package as we would not have been happy to have paid €100 each for a treatment in very basic surroundings. Hopefully when the treatment rooms are renovated, it will be a much better experience. I have to point out that our therapist, Deirdre, was excellent.
A very lazy day was spent in the library for the rest of the afternoon just reading the papers and soaking up the Downton Abbey style ambience of the room – you’d almost expect to see Maggie Smith perched in the corner. I have to give a mention to the lovely waitress Eva who served me my coffees and drinks throughout the afternoon. She is an asset to the hotel with her friendly, professional manner and she arranged a trip for us around the hotel the following morning with Patrick, one of the Concierges. That really was a great experience. Patrick is full of local knowledge and is also very witty. He took us to all corners of the house and gave us an insight into what life was like in the days when the house was lived in by the family.
The boutique in the hotel foyer has a lovely selection of goods and was surprisingly inexpensive. The lady behind the counter was so friendly and I ended up treating myself to a Rachel Allen tea-set!!
On the whole, we hated leaving the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it really was like switching off from the real world for a couple of days and just chilling out. I can’t say enough for the staff who were courteous, friendly and helpful at all times. Definitely, without a doubt, will return again and would highly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a little bit of luxury and peace for a couple of days!
Room Tip: Treat yourself to a deluxe room - 408 and 409 are great!!
