My partner and I just returned from a night at Echo Lodge and I am already trying to plan a return, longer visit. As a self-confessed foodie, I am happy to report that the food in the Mustard Seed is excellent, with a seasonal, balanced menu, perfectly executed. The wine list is also impressive, if a little pricey, but the 'wine of the month' and the house champagne were of excellent value and quality.
This boutique country house has a wonderful ambience; it is friendly, informal, warm and inviting. The proprietors have obviously invested lots of time and energy in styling the property and it has worked - they have done a terrific job in creating a space that really does encourage you to relax and ponder the story behind the electic objet d'art. and bold furnishings.
Our bedroom, overlooking the front of the property was very nice, a lovely space for the night. We also snuck a peek at the suites in the new wing. These are really lovely, especially if you're staying for a few nights – the compromise however is that they don’t quite have the character of the rooms in original building.
Adare is very nearby and is lovely to potter about. If you're a horse enthusiast, Clonshire Equestrian centre is a stone-throws away and a great way to burn off the calories and see the local countryside.
Finally, the breakfast … and the best porridge ever. It was soooo good that I had to ask the chef for his recipe. and as I suspected, it is cooked in cream – lethal but so worth it. Next time, I’m going to add a dash of Irish Whiskey for the ultimate holiday breakfast.
Can’t wait to go back.
