“Loved Nan and her breakfasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We booked Nan's B&B due to its location in Kinsale according to B&B Ireland. Actually it is about 15 miles away. But overall we ended up being very satisfied with our stay of three days. Nan, the owner, is a very warm and comfortable hostess. She and her husband ran a bar in Kinsale for many years and that experience really shows.

The B&B is out in the country with wonderful views across pasture and bay to a village on the opposite shore. It is very quiet except for the cattle lowing in the distance.

We were given a room with two twins as we got there one day early. But we decided to stay with the twins rather than go for a queen as the view from our room was just wonderful.

Bed was comfortable, very clean linens. Room was fairly large with good storage for our bags.

The bathroom was very small as it was built from a closet. The shower was OK although small by necessity. There was this noisy water heater contraption that provided the hotwater hanging from the wall of the shower. Bath towels were very nice.

Breakfast was delicious. Nan's homemade scones are the best I have had, ever. The ham (they call it bacon) and eggs were nicely done and presented. She also gave us french press coffee. And there were several choices of jam and butter.

Internet access was slow unless you used the dining room. Parking was fine. Overall the home is in great condition. She has a patio area with a table for snacking and there is pretty garden with a swing out back.

This brings me to our prepaid vouchers from B & B Ireland that we got through Brendan Tours. I don't think these are a good deal. First, Brendan doesn't break out the cost of the room vouchers from the flights and rental cars, so you don't know how much you are paying. Second, there are literally thousands of B & B's in Ireland and B & B Ireland only has several hundreds listed. This limits your choices. Their website is slow and poorly organized by county. They have no rating system for the quality of the B&B. Also, the location information can be very misleading as we found out. I would strongly urge anyone considering booking B&Bs in Ireland to do searches online and book directly with the owner.

Room Tip: Ask for the twin room in front.

“Nice B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Nice place to stay- very clean and friendly. A bit of a way out of town (not actually in Kinsale). Good breakfast.

This B&B was a delight to stay out. Nan was a gracious host with many many years of B&B experience which was evident from her lovely breakfasts , local knowledge and her ease of dealing with people . I would not hesitate to recommend this homely place to any weary

“Great quiet location 15-20 minutes from Kinsale”

Nan was an amazing hostess and the view was fantastic. Kinsale is about a 15-20 minute drive and is a lovely town to visit. There wasn't much within walking distance other than The Pink Elephant resturant, so plan on driving when staying here. The nearby cows sang us to sleep every night, we saw foxes, and cats and her dog (Mick) were always looking for a good pet. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic stay away just outside of town - this is certainly your place!
