We had the pleasure of staying in the Pier House B&B over the October bank holiday weekend. The B&B is clean, comfortable and has lovely modern decor. Anne, the owner, was very friendly and helpful in giving us advice about where to eat and local tours. Our room was large and nicely laid-out, which was particularly great as it gave our 11 month-old daughter space to crawl around! The B&B is in a great location and is just a few hundred yards from the famous Fishy Fishy restaurant. The availability of wine glasses and ice buckets added to the comfort. We had dinner out at a restaurant and then came back and put our daughter to bed, had a take-away dessert and shared a bottle of wine in the sitting room of the B&B with the baby monitor plugged in. It was a lovely evening. We’ll be back.

firstly the picture on the tripadvisior page for the pier house is incorrect, this is the bulman pub just outside kinsale, thought I would bring that to your attention, for up todate pic see pierhousekinsale.com, however I stayed there recently, two nights , very clean and good hospitality from the owner Anne, excellent breakfast. this BB is right in the middle of town, secluded garden entrance to the guest house,some other quests commented (from the US) that they thought the rooms were on the small size, I found them comfortable and clean and had a balcony to sit out on, free wifi in the lounge is a plus when you are travelling on your own on business as I was, would stay there again

We stayed here for a couple days in August. The one positive thing about the place is its central location in this very small town. One night here would have been more then plenty as there is not a lot to do but staying centrally in a town where little is going on is a plus (or is it?).
The owners were nice and accommodating and the breakfast was more then ample and quite good.
The room we had was poor. It was one of the larger rooms but still small that had a tiny balcony and that looked out into the street which is better then looking at the tops of the building but the view was not a problem. The bathroom was horrible. The sliding door did not close and had a gap of a at least 3 inches so while you are doing your thing, you can see through the gap who was sleeping next to you if you get my drift!! So stupid; just get a door that closes or fix this one. My guess is that Ann runs the whole place with little help from the hubby so she probably has not been in a room for years and all the he did was mow the lawn and smoke cigarettes. The bathroom was also tiny and we probably had about 12 inches from the wall to the sink to stand so if you weighed more then 200 lbs you may not be able to fit.
In Karen Brown's book where she talked about the place, she mentioned they had really nice bathroom toiletries. That was incorrect. They had a large pump bottle that had a nice French name on it (that I can't actually remember) but inside was probably some shampoo that was poured out of a gallon jug from some grocery store. It was not the real thing and the bottle didn't even fit into the bathroom fixture. The room and bathroom needs refurbishing. We would not stay here again since we wouldn't return to Kinsale.
Not sure when Karen Brown was last here but she should do a return visit. Usually she is pretty right on with regards to her recommendations but she missed this by a mile.

First the positives...the room was lovely...very clean...with a great view. We had a corner room with sliding glass doors that led to a balcony. However, we didn't feel the wonderful hospitality from the owner like we did at the other B&B's we stayed at. She never greeted us upon arrival..there are several young people working there and they just led us to our room...no conversation.....the bathroom door in our room was a sliding one that for some strange reason doesn't close all the way...somewhat awkward...there is NO PARKING..and beleive me you will have a hard time finding somewhere to park...we drove around and around for an hour waiting for something..and then we had to drag our luggage through the streets to get there when we finally found a spot...in the morning we went to breakfast and when the owner walked in she never introduced herself or said welcome...she just asked for our breakfast choices...so I took it upon myself to introduce ourselves and ask her name...and I think the most disappointing aspect was the fact that she overcharged me on the room by 20 euros. And when I politely asked why the rate was different than what she had quoted she said it had increased. So I would suggest verifying your rate upon arrival. After staying in so many wonderful places over our 2 week stay, this was truly a disappointment. But then again...if you aren't interested in conversation and are looking for a hotel feel...then this may be a good option for you.
