Blindgate house was a wonderful place to stay, no more than 2 minutes walk to the town and placed on a quiet street. We stayed here 3 nights and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Everything was perfect, from our friendly and helpful host, to the spacious and clean, bright room we had. I am returning in October and will most definitely be staying here again. I would advise this place to anyone staying in Kinsale. Many of the hotels in Kinsale are a little old and shabby inside the rooms, and many of the bed & breakfast's are a little too small for an extended stay. The beauty of Blindgate House is that perfect mix of comfort and modern rooms, and value for money. Also, the place is big and well spread out so you don't even notice other guests. I love this place! And the breakfast included in the price is just superb!

We realy loved this place. The owner, Maeve, was very helpful and went out of her way to make us comfortable. The room was spacious and very clean, and the breakfast was very good. My only complaint was the location, and even that was not bad. But, don't be fooled by Frommers - this property is not really in the heart of things. That said, it is only a 10 minute walk down the hill to the restaurants, bars and shops. It is a steep hill, so the walk up can be a little daunting, especially after a large meal and a few drinks. Still, I would recommend this place to anyone who wanted to avoid the hecticness of being on the main streets but still wanted to be within walking distance.

  • Liked — The owner, Maeve. She was fantastic!

This very personable, very contemporary B&B was wonderful. My husband and I just returned from Ireland and the Blindgate house was by far one of the nicest places we stayed at. It is a short 6 minute walk into the center of Kinsale. If you want views of the ocean stay downtown, but be warned you will be dealing with the occupants of pubs at midnight, which could get loud.
The bedrooms were very clean, very spacious and not outdated or worn at all. The breakfast was wonderful, all cooked to order with fresh produce. I am a hotel general manager myself so have found myself to be highly critical of other hotels, this B&B was nothing but superb. One other note the proprietor Maeve was also a superb host.

Kinsale and surrounding area are lovely, but for the price, I expected more. The desk attendants were difficult to find (on arrival repeated rings at the doorbell before answered, and the next day phone calls to the front desk were unanswered for a couple hours). The room was showing wear and tear (furniture damaged, bathroom edges grimey), and the view was of a hedge. Breakfasts were great (real french toast!) and server was friendly and helpful with directions. The facility looks and feels more like a hotel than a b&b (proprietor not apparent), but the has not retained the luster of a boutique hotel.

My husband and I just finished a week driving through Ireland and really enjoyed Kinsale and the Blindgate House. This property has large comfortable rooms and bathrooms, a very pretty common area for guests to congregate, and ample parking. Breakfast was good and cooked to order. The staff was friendly and accomodating. This is a good base for visiting this charming town.
