We stayed here with our adult son and his wife. The streets are very narrow and steep but we had no problem finding the place. Parking can be found on the street above the castle next door or in the large car park in the city center, near the TI office, a 5 minute walk away. Mary was waiting on the bench in front of the house when we arrived. Our rooms were similar to typical small continental hotel rooms. They were perfectly clean and everything worked including the heat which we did use overnight. The bathroom was clean and everything worked well. The shower would be tight for a large person. I am 6' 3" and 210 lbs and had no trouble picking up the shampoo!
Mary runs the Tap Tavern which is straight down the hill on the right just past the Garda (police) station. The tavern seems an authentic place, short on ferns and frills but long on friendliness. We were able to meet some locals and enjoy some pints and conversation. Mary's son Brian works here and was a pleasure. In the evening he runs the "Ghost Tour" which leaves from the back.
Our sleep was quiet and untroubled.
The breakfast was quite good and served in a nice room which really feels like a home and not some of the pretentious places one encounters in B and B's the states. I spent some time talking to Mary and found her to be quite charming. I brought up some of the negative things that are in reviews on this site and she seemed to be genuinely hurt by some of them. She stated that she would much rather hear from a guest that something is deficient than find it written on a web page later when she can not address the problem. She is refreshingly open and honest and reminded me of my Irish Grandmother, who brooked no nonsense.
We spent ten days in Band B's and as one reviewer stated this is the real deal. All in all we had a great time here and would recommend it.
