I had been to Kinsale in 2005 and loved the town. Anxious to share it with my two nieces (ages 20 & 24) and I made an online reservation to stay at Sovereign House. We drove around & around, but could not find it. Finally, we parked & ventured out on foot. We found a row of houses with most of them under renovation. I remembered that Sovereign House had a blue door, so I knocked on the house with the blue door. A thin man with a deep voice answered and told us that we had indeed found Sovereign House. His question of "Is it just you three?" sounded like Lurch from the Adams Family and made the hair on my neck rise! Without a word, the three of us turned and got away from there as quickly as possible. My beloved town of Kinsale will never be the same again . . . we laugh about "The Blue Door" now and are grateful that we not step inside.

Looking at the website (sovereignhouse) would lead one to believe it's the best B&B deal in town. Breakfast was one of the best of any of the B&Bs we visited throughout Ireland, but that's the only really good thing we have to say. James was out when we arrived, and only by chance was another guest able to give us the name of the pub where he could be found. The place is badly in need of repairs as well as a good cleaning throughout. Since there are so many lodging options in Kinsale, we recommend looking further. Good luck...

Stayed in the off season and had the place to ourselves ..literally, as the owner was not to be found. The rooms were very big, the bathrooms OK. The decor is ecclectic but the place needed a good cleaning and dusting. The building is a marvelous Queen Anne and would be a great stay if managed properly.
