“Not worth the money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

The location of this hotel is wonderful -- overlooking the harbor, BUT, be aware of the following: (1) there is no a/c and depending upon the time of your trip, this can be uncomfortable; (2) some of the rooms overlook an alley; (3) there is only one small, old elevator which can become an issue if there are a number of people checking in at once; (4) this is an old hotel which has all the foibles such as creaky, uneven floors, older carpet. If you can overlook the above, the location is wonderful for walking around the town, and the harbor view rooms are lovely.

“Small dated room, bizarre room service, great location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

I stayed here for one night when working in Blarney. Its a great location in Kinsale, over looking the harbour and 5 min walk to most places in town. Vey close to fishy fishy, a seafood place which i didnt eat in but is supposed to be great. Staff were nice when I checked in. Bar was understaffed. There was a stag party of 43 people in the bar with one bar person. I ordered food which was just ok. I was in room 307 which was quite small and overlooking a laneway so I thought it would be quiet.,,there was a wedding in the hotel and although my room wasnt over the reception there were children and their parents shouting and running up and down the corridor until the early hours. For some reason the staff decided not to ask them to be quiet.

I rang for room service at 1215am and was told that room service was finished depsite the room menu stating it was 24hours and I shared the lift with a waiter laden down with food 2 minutes beforehand..when I told the staff member this he informed me their policy was no food that particular night. very odd.

I probably wouldnt stay in this hotel again. The decor, small rooms, food and bizarre room service policy are not enough to balance out the great location.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for rooms away from bar / wedding reception area.

“Comfortable Stay despite the required modernisation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We arrived at 12noon in a party of 21people and although check-in wasnt until 2pm they managed to fit in most of the party by 1pm. We went for the Jazz festival so the room wasnt that important - it was on the whole clean. There were area's for obvious improvement and modernisation. You had mold/damp on windows and some in bathroom. Kettle broke and looked like it had been broken for a while. However, had the room been in 1st class condition, you would be paying 1st class prices. The prices are extremely competive and we had lovely views over the bay. The breakfast was ordered to our room for 6 euro's - too hungover & lazy to get to breakfast. Simply tick what you want (like my sister who ticked everything) and the staff go out of their way to provide it. Had a meal on the Saturday night which was good but not brilliant. On the whole Kinsale is pricier that the UK but you get the warm and welcoming service where ever you go. Kinsale itself is brill, drunk too much of the black stuff and forgot where i left my camera! Actons is located near to amenities and I would go back there. Ask for a harbour view. As far as I am aware all 21 of us enjoyed it and hope to return one day.

“Great location but it ends there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

The hotel is probably the best location in the town. We stayed there twice before over 5 years ago.
it was a fair price we thought and it also included breakfast.
The first sign that there was an issue is the sign for Actons is off colour and needs a refurb.
Our room had clean crisp linen but that was the end. there was an odour of smoke in the room, the bathroom was falling apart... access flap to the water works open and dirty. there were hundreds of cigarette buts outside our window.
We had breakfast the first morning but couldn't face the smell of the dining room the second day and went out for a lovely breakfast in a local cafe.
really needs either new carpets or major clean and revamp.
the pool was excellent. Busy with friendly staff.

I booked this hotel for my parents recently. They arrived back yesterday and had a lovely time. The hotel was friendly, had ample free parking, nice breakfast, good location to the centre of the town.
