“First class, Irish hospitality at its best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We have stayed in many hotels in Ireland and Europe with our children for all kinds of occasions but the Quality Hotel And Leisure Centre in Clonakilty was exceptional.

The location, accommodation, cleanliness and excellent staff make this hotel our first choice for future breaks. Our children whose ages ranged from 8 to 13 were more than satisfied with the plenty of activities the hotel offered; Teen Zone with pool table, air hockey, Wii fit, xbox, playstations, swimming pool, organised kids club €10 for the day......and the adults had a time to relax in the Jacuzzi, have a revitalizing massage or body treatment at the luxurious spa, or avail of the free Wifi service in the reception and bar area while sitting in front of an open fire. CCTV in the hotel gave us added peace of mind knowing that our children were well taken care of and were safe which is critical in the current climate.

Only tiny gripe is the furnishings and decor were a bit tired in the dining the ‘brown’ panels in lower end of the bar need to be updated as the furnishings in the upper bar are beautiful.

Particular mention should be made of the Receptionist Deirdre and the dining staff including Ruth and the very pleasant, tall, blonde girl who were all both accommodating and professional in their approach and went out of their way to cater for our particular dietary needs. Huge thank you to the Head Chef who ordered in ice cream especially for my son, which only served to further reinforce our opinion of this little gem. Indeed their efforts make this place a text-book-perfect example of hotel theory and practice.
We will definitely be back. Thank you!

And to quote my husband ‘If Heineken did hotels .........

“Super deals to be had in a good hotel”

Stayed in family room for one night. Check in was friendly but slightly put out with having to wait 20 mins for our room despite arriving at 2.45pm. Minor gripe though. The room was very nice and had everything we needed. The pool is nice but the swimming lanes mean that space with kids can be tight. Breakfast was very good. We stayed on a Saturday night and there was a lot of noise in corridors which disturbed sleep a bit but can't really lay a lot of blame on hotel for this. Happy to stay there again particularly as we got a great deal there.

Thank you for your comments. Please accept our apologies for the delay on check in. Our check in time is normally anytime after 3pm, but if guests arrive early, we always try to accommodate them as best we can, depending on the departures from the previous night. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in the hotel and we hope to see you back at the hotel soon.

“Extremely Family Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Just arrived back from a weekend in the Quality Hotel Clonakilty, exceptionally good weekend, kids facilities were excellent, two children aged 4 and aged 8 were very happy, and parents happy too. Jungle Gym was great, pool was fab, decor was a bit old but quite adequate.
I had only one or two small grievances, the bedroom we were in was very cold, this is January and it was a particular cold and the radiators were luke warm, they were not left on at night and even first thing in the morning they were cold. Tried the rads in the hallway and they were also cold. As I say this is my small grievance.
Food was excellent, kids meal super, we did feel the restaurant lacked character as it had a 'school canteen' feel to it, it wouldnt take much to cheer it up, a bit of soft lighting, some tablecloths, piano in the corner. You couldnt fault the food or portion size so it is just our thoughts on the dining experience.
Would I go back, definately ! kids loved it and its a safe fun environment for them, the bar area is also family friendly and kids are welcome in the bar which is a rarity in ireland.

Room Tip: Executive Rooms in the hotel are cold and walls are very thing

“not as much kids entertainment as the quality hotel youghal!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

just in d door home from a weekend at the quality hotel in Clonakilty co Cork. It was meself ,my boyfriend and the two kids both aged 9. When we arrived it was only 12 noon so we were too early for check in so we went to Lannigans restraunt for sum early lunch which we found was dear for food and the food was only average! Then we went into oscars bar just while we were waiting for a drink and the drink there was also expensive...€4.40 for a pint and nearly €3 for a glass of coke!saying that though it was a nice relaxing bar. On check in their was sum error that the family room we booked wasn't available so we were given a two bed apartment which was fine.Apartment was basic with a tiny kitchenette consisting of fridge, kettle, toaster and sink but we didnt mind as we were b&b anyways.Bathroom was spotless and the rooms small but spotless.also there was a little sitting room with tv and a dvd player which was nice.the poll could have being designed more child friendly as their was 3 swimming lanes and than the rest of the pool was shallow.Myself and my boyfriend used the ssauna n jacuzzi while we wer there too and my god i felt like a lobster being put in the jacuzzi to boil.....the temperature was way to hot...the water was scalding me getting into it.!!Saying that though the hotel and staff were nice but i wish they had more entertainment put on for the kids. We had two 9 year olds with us and they were bored.yes theres a cinema on site but the latest film suitable for them to watch was on at 5:10 in the evening so they were out and all at half 6.the teen zone consisted of a few tvs that they could play the nintendo wii on...at a fee! and also a pool table and air hockey table. However it was full of toodlers and younger kids so they wouldnt go in so in the end we all ended up going back to the apartment early and watching a dvd we had brought with us. Also, in the bar that evening it was full and I couldn't make out why....but found out the restraunt was fully booked and so people had to order their food from the restraunt to eat in the bar. The breakfast in the hotel was plentiful and plenty of variety too.

Thank you for your comments and we were glad to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay and experience at the hotel. We believe the hotel prices to be reasonable and carvery lunch is good value at €9.95 with a free tea or coffee. There are very few hotels that have children’s facilities such as a Jungle Gym, Teen Zone, Creche, Outdoor Playground and Cinema and these always receive very positive comments, therefore we were disappointed to hear your feedback. The Teen Zone has 9 screens and consoles. There is no charge on the teen zone, you pay a deposit for the controllers for the Wii, Xbox & Playstation, but this is refunded when you bring the controllers back. We hope to see you return to the hotel again soon.

“Average only....but excellent staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Visited between Christmas and the New Year and was a bit disappointed compared to previous trips. Whilst it was very clean it was a bit "tired" looking and needs a revamp. Lovely pool however play area could be improved a bit more in terms of content. Food was OK only - which was disappointing as it was fantastic (as hotel food goes) on previous occasions. Compared to other 2 trips we had there we were very disappointed. Children running up and down the corridors until 1.30am didn't exactly help but that is more the fault of parents than the hotel.

However the staff there are outstanding. In particular one of the managers at breakfast (chap with glasses) was extremely friendly to families despite being run off his feet!
We had to leave a night early as our kids were sick - the lovely receptionists took the nights B&B off our bill which was very nice of them as we weren't expecting it. Again, the staff overall were great.

Thank you for your comments. Many of the staff here have been with the hotel for a long time and take pride in their work so it was particularly refreshing to hear that they went “the extra mile” for you during your stay. We were disappointed however to hear your feedback in relation to the play area. Facilities such as the Jungle Gym & Teen Zone are very unique, so I am not sure what improvements you feel are required. I will most certainly address your additional comments with the relevant departments and I hope you will consider returning to the hotel again soon.
