“WONDERFUL Experience!”

We were housesitting for friends in Cork, and went up to Dingle at the last minute (when there looked to be a clear day--it was, after all, the end of October! :>) We had found Killfountain Farm in the 2006 Irish Farmhouse Holidays booklet we bought at the Kinsale TI office. When we arrived in Dingle, we went on through out the west end, turned right onto R559 and found the farm; signs were excellent.

Mrs. Lynch, the wife, was home, and she had all rooms available (there are actually 6, most en suite), given the time of year, athough she was fully booked the coming bank holiday weekend. We were greeted by Lily, the cutest rough-coated Jack Russell Terrier in the world--beware, as she does jump up on people.

This is a working dairy farm, and as I'm a great animal lover, I was in heaven! The farm is about 200 years old, and has always been in this family's hands. Mr. & Mrs. Lynch are older, and helped by their son.

The room was very comfortable--overlooking the milking barns and yard. There is central heating, and we were quite toasty. Our en suite bathroom was quite nice and modern.

We had a full Irish breakfast, and were also given an afternoon tea tray.

This is the most wonderful family! I was welcomed not only to watch the milking, but to help with it! What a fantastic experience! Both Fionnan, the son, and Mr. Lynch were so very patient with all my questions and in teaching me (and I'm in my mid-50's!). As if Dingle weren't special enough by itself, staying on Killfountain Farm and working with these wonderful people for even those two days made those days the most special time imaginable of our two-week trip.

Families with children would LOVE this farm--I was told that all children want to take Lily home with them! :>) (So did I!)

  • Liked — Wanted a working farm
  • Disliked — Can't think of anything--it was all around a wonderful experience, and we'll go back!
  • Tips/Secrets — If you want to help with the milking, stop in town (Moriarty's--smallish place down from the TI office) and get some Wellies. Or bring some shoes you don't care much about! :>) Hey, it's a farm. Cows poop.
