“Not bad but could be a whole lot better”

So it's not 4 star luxury but it doesn't claim to be. I stayed here with my husband last weekend and it was ok. We used a special offer voucher and it was good value. I agree with other reviewers about how tired the place is but we found the staff to be friendly and overall we got what we paid for. The bedroom was large and the bathroom was not bad, good powerful shower but bring all your own toiletries as there are no extras, just a soap pump and mini soap bars. The bed was comfortable enough, but the duvet was thin and flat as were the pillows. We only ate here at breakfast and the first morning it was a total disaster. It was very busy (probably lots of people using the weekend break offer) but there was absolutely no system for managing the people coming in for breakfast. We selected a table, went to the buffet for cereal, juice etc and sat down to eat. After about 20 minutes nobody had come near us to take our breakfast order and we noticed the couple beside us getting agitated also. It turned out they had been waiting for half an hour. Just then a family of 4 arrived and no sooner were they seated when the waiter came to take their order. I approached the waiter and told him that we were waiting a long time as were the couple beside us. He apologised and came shortly after to take our orders. In fairness to the staff, they were totally run off their feet but as I said there seems to be NO system whatsoever at breakfast. The 2nd morning was much better, quick service and the food was also good, no complaints at all. Location wise, if you are looking for a base to explore the Dingle peninsula then this is a good base, however if you like to be in around the buzz of the town then I suggest staying in Dingle itself. I know we will stay in town the next time.

“TIRED HOTEL”

The Smerwick Harbour Hotel is a bit of a misnomer as it is located a couple of kilometers from the coast in a boggy field. It is in need of refurbishment as the public areas, bedrooms and bathrooms are all a bit tired. The hair dryer in the bedroom wasn't working and we had constant difficulty unlocking our door with the swipecard.
On the positive side, our room was substantial with a double and two single beds. There was tea/coffee making facility in our room but we had to go to the lobby or bar to access the free wifi. The only meal we had in the restaurant was breakfast which was substantial.
The hotel has lots of parking space. Best of all this hotel is strategically positioned to tour the Dingle Peninsular, one of the most beautiful locations in the World.

“We loved it all over again”

We have stayed in the Smerwick Harbour hotel several times and have always loved it. It is not the poshest hotel in the world but the staff are really lovely and the rooms, whilst they may be in need of a little refurbishment, are spacious and very clean. We bore in mind this year that we were actually paying less than most average B+Bs!

With this in mind, it was easy to do with a towel less - the bathroom was spotless and there were plenty of toiletries. The breakfast was plentiful - there was a fruitbowl, cereal, some yoghurt, brown bread baked on the premises - in addition to the usual full Irish breakfast of various combinations of eggs, rashers, sausages, black and white pudding etc. The hot breakfast was served at the table rather than having to collect it yourself as is usual on the continent and elsewhere.

The hotel is ideally placed to avail of the Blasket Heritage Centre in Dunquin and to explore the whole peninsula, drive the ring of Kerry, etc. Dingle is only a few miles away and it is easy to book a different restaurant there every evening for dinner. Highly recommend the Smerwick harbour as a great base for exploring Kerry. Will be back again, I hope.

“Never again”

Situated in the middle of nowhere. I became suspicious when I saw nobody else there, soon found out why. In spite of nobody being there, myself and the wife were still waiting about an hour at reception. I wouldn't mind if the receptionist was friendly. We arrived up to a very cold room, and woke up to an even colder breakfast... with only the one rasher and two sausages, no sign of a hash brown. Tomato was questionable.

I'd sooner stay the night in the Lebanon.
