We have stayed in the Smerwick Harbour hotel several times and have always loved it. It is not the poshest hotel in the world but the staff are really lovely and the rooms, whilst they may be in need of a little refurbishment, are spacious and very clean. We bore in mind this year that we were actually paying less than most average B+Bs!
With this in mind, it was easy to do with a towel less - the bathroom was spotless and there were plenty of toiletries. The breakfast was plentiful - there was a fruitbowl, cereal, some yoghurt, brown bread baked on the premises - in addition to the usual full Irish breakfast of various combinations of eggs, rashers, sausages, black and white pudding etc. The hot breakfast was served at the table rather than having to collect it yourself as is usual on the continent and elsewhere.
The hotel is ideally placed to avail of the Blasket Heritage Centre in Dunquin and to explore the whole peninsula, drive the ring of Kerry, etc. Dingle is only a few miles away and it is easy to book a different restaurant there every evening for dinner. Highly recommend the Smerwick harbour as a great base for exploring Kerry. Will be back again, I hope.
