“Stag proof...;-)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

we stayed here for a stag party and i must say for 35 euro a night with breakfast and free entry to night club on sat night...it was great value...seriously i was worried from reading some of the reviews on this...but to be honest we had a great time the rooms are fine and were clean it was perfect for what we payed and is perfect for 30 lads that just want to have the craic...i would not stay here if i was with a girlfirend but for the likes of a stag party its ideal...Club was great too..Thumbs up from me..

“Look no further - The only place for a stag party”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

Can’t praise this place enough! After a full week of trying to get accommodation in Dingle I thankfully eventually came across the Hillgrove. Be warned --- accommodation providers (particularly guesthouses and holiday homes) don’t like stags. They must have been stung in the past as some places even hung up when they heard it was a stag! This place on the other hand is made for them. Extremely friendly service, fantastic breakfast, power showers and single up to quadruple rooms. As with all stags there was a lot of changing of room types and numbers and the staff and owner could not have been more accommodating. Staying there also means you get free entry to the nightclub (€10) which is hopping on a Saturday night… nearly a thousand people the night we were there. It’s very convenient to town too but if it’s raining there is a complimentary shuttle bus to get you back at night. The barman even dropped us in the first night which was very decent of him…

As for activities we went surfing with Kingdom Waves at Inch and Tom the instructor was class. Had us all standing within 2 hours which is some achievement. The next day we went to PlayatHeight which is a few miles outside the town for rock climbing, high ropes and a type of bungee. Great value and again the staff were excellent. Highly recommend them…

“Satruday Nights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2009

I stayed at the Hillgrove a at end of February 09. What a wonderful stay we had. we were a group of 16 girls on a Hen Party. From the moment we arrived the staff and management were wonderful. The rooms were more that adequate for what we paid for them. Lovely atmosphere there. We had drinks in their new bar before going to a restaurant in town. We didnt want to leave. what a cool bar - it is futuristic and even has fish tanks! Later that night we went to the Niteclub. I have to say that it is one of the best niteclubs that i was ever at, It has the traditional layout of a dance floor in the middle of the room which you dont see much of anymore. Lastly i want to say that our freshly cooked breakfast was delicious. For some reason its rare to get a freshly cooked breakfast in hotel anymore. Overall a major thumbs up for the Hillgrove. I will definitely be back

“The WORST hotel i have ever been in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2008

This has to be with out a doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.15 of us were booked in for my best friends hen night, we got delayed on the way down so only had a quick glance at the rooms before heading out to a local restaurant for a meal, and I have to say at a glance they appeared fine. Not luxury by any means but fine for a hen night, or so we thought. The first sign that any thing was wrong happened about 15 mins after we arrived. All the electric went in the rooms, the girl at the desk told us that she had turned on the heating when we arrived to dry out the rooms as the hotel had not been used in some time and this had tripped the power. We thought it was a bit odd that the rooms had not been used but were just happy they fixed the power and continued to get ready for a night on the town. The real problems started at 1.30 am when 2 of the girls left the night club to go to bed, they found there beds to be damp to the touch, thinking it may have just been a problem in that room we checked all the other rooms our party had booked and all the beds were damp, and I mean very damp when you sat on a bed your clothes were damp after. We went to the front desk the girl there came and checked the sheets and agreed that they were damp but explained the hotel is only used when they have group bookings and there had been no heating on there for some time until we arrived that day. She offered to put all the sheets in a dryer we agreed, but they still came back damp. we asked to speak to the owner who was in no rush to come to speak to us but finally after 20 mins or so he made a appearance, he also agreed that the sheets were damp and told us he had been drying them, on further investigation we found that the mattresses were damp so changing the sheets would not help if they were put back on a damp mattress. We were offered €20 off the price which we refused as we could not possibly sleep in damp beds. the owner became very annoyed with us when we asked for our money back and came back with our money in a envelope threw it on the dressing table and told us we could leave so . being a bank holiday weekend and now 4 am we had no where to go, we ended up sleeping in the residence bar and on chairs in the corridors . to add insult to injury 2 of the girls went in for breakfast and were told they couldn’t have it because they had been refunded, so after sleeping on a chair they would not even compensate us with breakfast. The owner’s attitude was terrible he even suggested we get a taxi home at 4 am bearing in mind we live 3 hours drive away this was a ridiculous suggestion. We were made to feel like we had done something wrong for expecting a basic hotel standard, this hotel would not even meet hostel standard. I have never been treated so badly or felt so unwelcome in any hotel and I am by no means a pampered princess and am well used to roughing it but not used to paying €65 for the privilege of a wet bed. No one offered us so much as a blanket as we slept on chairs. This building should be condemned and the owner should take some classes in customer service.

  • Liked — nothing
  • Disliked — the wet beds and the owners attitude
