“Nice location, wonderful hosts, rooms decent”

We visited in mid March 2011 and arrived around dark, a little later than we wanted. But Brendan was there to welcome us and allowed us to have pick of an upstairs or downstairs room. We stayed in the first floor room and were a little disappointed. The room was a not tiny but not as large as some we stayed in during our trip. There was a full size bed and a twin in the room with a small desk and a wardrobe. The bed was a little firm for our liking and the drapes and bedspreads could use an update. Also, the carpet could use a good cleaning or replacement. With these updates, I would give Abbey Court 5 stars in the room category. The bathroom was on the smaller side, both of us could not be in it at the same time, but it did the job fine. The window looked out over the water.

The breakfast was wonderful with pancakes, eggs, and all the trimmings too! Very much enjoyed the breakfast room and the sitting room. The house itself was amazing! It has the castle look and feel with beautiful stained glass. Brendan gave us lots of advice on touring Beara and things to do in town and places to eat. We particularly enjoyed going to the pier he told us about to watch the sunset.

Overall we enjoyed our time at Abbey Court. We probably would try another location if the price were the same if we went back to Kenmare. However, I believe the pros outweigh the few cons at Abbey Court.

“Ireland adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

If your holiday takes you to beautiful Kenmare you will do yourself a favor by staying at Abbey Court which is just grand any way you slice it and right on Kenmare bay The man of the house Brendan Kelly is probably Irelands most gracious host and will assist you in any way possible to assure your holiday is superb This part of Co Kerry is really gods country and when youve been on the ring of Beara you will see why especially Healy pass Plenty of pubs but try Coachmans and if youre lucky you will hear Irelands best entertainer Michael OBrien worth the trip

“Great place to stay in this fun Irish town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

From the moment we arrived Brendan made us feel at home. The Abbey Court is huge, with numerous rooms in which one can relax and enjoy the views. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable.

Abbey Court is located adjacent to a ruined abbey and graveyard, which is interesting to explore. It is a healthy walk to the main drag of Kenmare. The town itself is wonderful, filled with shops, pubs and even an ancient stone circle.

“The BEST place to visit SW Ireland from!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

While pasting the address of Abbey Court into an email to a friend today - who's planning on going there with two other couples in the spring of 2012 - I realized that I hadn't actually reviewed our stay there last April. Not that Abbey Court needs any more amazing reviews, but here's another one anyway!

It was the BEST place we could possibly have stayed. We were SO glad we didn't stay in Killarney as a base for visiting Dingle, Kerry, Beara and Killarney Nat'l Park. Kenmare was much quieter and less touristy, and Abbey Court was a real find! Brendan, our host, was incredibly helpful, giving us all sorts of useful advice on restaurants, pub music, off-the-beaten track routes to take, etc. etc. Our room was extremely comfortable and clean, and very quiet. I was on crutches at the time, and whenever we came in from our sightseeing, Brendan would bring up a tray of tea and cookies as well as my ice-packs for my gimpy knee, which he kindly kept in his freezer. Breakfasts were delicious and relaxing in a really nice dining-room. But the best part of Abbey Court is without a doubt the genuine friendliness of Brendan and his wife. Stay here! You couldn't possibly find a nicer place!!!!!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are equally good. There are two floors, but each floor has its own sitting-roo...

“If Only All B&Bs Were Like This”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Kenmare is a terrific place to base yourself if you're going to be exploring this remarkable part of Ireland. It's a beautiful little town, packed with friendly bars and eateries. Situated between the Kerry and Beara Peninsulas, and not far from Dingle, it's perfectly located for your County Kerry holiday. And Abbey Court is a great place to stay while you're in Kenmare.

It's a little way out of town - about a 10 to 15 minute walk - next to the picturesque ruins of an old Abbey.

Our room was on the smallish side, but with a very comfortable bed, tasteful modern furnishings, and a reasonable sized ensuite.

But the highlight of this place are the people who run it. From my first contact with Brendan and Ger (via email) I knew we were in great hands. These people really know how to run a B&B.

Brendan is a master of finding out people's interests, then helping them design a plan to get the most out of their Kenmare stay. Ask his advice, then take it!! Ger does a terrific job with the breakfasts - which are plentiful and delicious. Together they are gracious, welcoming hosts to whom nothing is a problem.

If you like being in the middle of the action in town, this may not be the place for you. But if you're happy to be within easy reach of town, but out of the noise and bustle, it doesn't come much better than this.

Happy to recommend.
