“Good weekend with the kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Spent a nice weekend here with two kids, aged 7 and 9. The beach is only a short walk away and we spent most of our time there. The hotel rooms are basic but clean and good value. We found the staff very friendly , the breakfast very good, and the kids loved the pizza. There were plenty local characters in the bar and music to entertain us adults later in the night. Good fun all round and good value.

“A Great Family Run Hotel - Ideal for Families and a Great Location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

This hotel is in a very picturesque location, right on the beach in Co. Kerry. The staff are very helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. It isn't the Savoy, but for a great value trip it would be hard to beat. The hotel is full of character, not one of those modern chain hotels that are the same all over the world. This is an Irish country hotel to perfection. Food is good and there is a lively bar. Situated in the village of Ballyheigue, there are a couple of small supermarkets, a post-office, a few pubs and a take-away. I have stayed there about six times and plan to visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view and sleep at night to the sound of the waves - heaven!

“only average ! limited choice in area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

I was here for a weekend with my family. The hotel is in a good location just beside beach. The layout is all over the place - you have to travel through breakfast room to get to the lift. The rooms were small but adequate. We all had a great sleep. The breakfast was dissapointing - limited choice and the impression i got was that it was rushed. The homemade bread was good. The bar downstairs does a good pizza. I didn't find the receptionist very helpful re walk suggestions or even things to do in the area. Banna beach is a nice longer beach to walk on. Pop into tralee for some action. We had the evening meal at the hotel - the mains were very good everyone happy - dessert was obviously bought in and not nice.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view.

“"Good location, but good weather a must"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We have just returned from a short break at the White Sands Hotel in Ballyheigue in Co Kerry. We found the Hotel to be in a very good location, just accross the road from one of Irelands Blue Flag beaches. A convenient base for visiting North Kerry. The Hotel is an average 3 star hotel which is in need of updating. Whilst the room offered an exvellent view over the beach, we found it dull and old fashioned. Unfortunately recession has hit Ballyheigue and the Hotel seems more interested in catering for the local caravan park residents than their own guests, as the restaurant is no longer open and only has bar food available, which is quite pricy. We think this is quite a shame as there is an area in the hotel, containing a comfortable bar and restaurant area, but is closed down. A small investment in this area could improve business as Jimmy Browns bar is nice, but not to everyones taste. We found the staff in general to be pleasant and helpful. Parking can be a problem if you are any way late in returning to the hotel.

“Best scrambled egg in the world!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Overall, a basic family run hotel. Rooms were nice but hotel corridors were outdated & could do with a spruce up. Staff were extremely friendly & accommodating. Breakfast was not officially served until 8am but staff ensured that we were fed at the earlier time of 7am before we set off for the Ring of Kerry. Delicious scrambled egg. It was perfect! Hospitality consider I would most definitely return.

(P.s. Ballyheigue beach is beautiful; if only the sun shone once in a while!)
