We recently spent ten lovely days staying in La Bodega - a one bedroom apartment at this gem of a small boutique guest-house. This was our third visit to the island and we wanted to stay away from the more touristy areas such as Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. We are also both fascinated with the local artist Cesar Manrique and the look and feel of Finca Malvasia evoke his work and legacy superbly.
The resort is close to La Geria, the wine producing area on the island and the surrounding vineyards and, of course, volcanoes give a wonderful feeling of solitude, peace and quiet. That said, it is very easy to get to and from the airport, the little town of Tias with a supermarket - Ropers- that sells great local produce is a short drive away and you are well placed for LZ-2 and LZ-30, two roads that will take you quickly and easily to most places on the island.
The owners Richard and Tarnya are very friendly and welcoming [not to mention their son Joss and the two dogs!!] and having lived on Lanzarote for five years are a fount of local knowledge of the best places to eat, drink and shop. Clearly sharing our appreciation of good food and wine, they helped us to discover more of the real Lanzarote and life as lived by the local people like those at the farmers' market in Mancha Blanca or the restaurants that you might not notice driving past but which offer superb dishes. They are extremely kind and helpful but with a light touch and their welcoming complimentary bottle of wine was one of the best-balanced and enjoyable whites that we have discovered in a very long time! .
The apartment was simple, spacious and well-appointed and it suited us perfectly.
I can only whole-heartedly recommend Finca Malvasia; we will certainly be going back there.
