“Absolutely Brilliant”

I have travelled extensively throughout the world and have to admit that this was the friendliest B&B I have ever stayed in. As soon as we arrived on Friday evening (running late as well) nothing was ever too much trouble. Chris and Janet were the perfect hosts. Everything, from explaining what we were eating to informing us of where the best places to see the wildlife, was first class and very informative.

The room we had was extremely comfortable, the private use of the living room and your own bathroom was perfect. As for breakfast, I would highly recommend Janet's porridge (and I am not a porridge lover). The dessert we had on Friday evening was to die for and would not be out of place in a high star restaurant.

If you want somewhere to relax and feel comfortable then please visit here.

Thank you both for a great place to relax and I hope to re-visit sometime soon.

“Memorable croft stay”

Chris and Janet Mitchell are warm, inviting hosts who go out of their way to make guests feel warm, comfortable and "at home". Janet is an excellent cook who uses their home grown produce and local seafood for evening meals, which are a real treat. The upstairs double bedroom has skylights and a lovely view; the downstairs is completely private -- with peat fire awaiting if travellers return from a blustery day of meandering. If "invited", Janet and Chris will spend some quality time chatting around the fire in the parlor as well, but they must be coaxed, since they ensure guests' privacy as well.

Be sure to take a guided tour with Chris -- he is very knowledgeable and will teach you about lichen, plants, geology as well as habitat of otters, sea eagles and peregrin falcons.

They also gave excellent tips for day travel and places to eat. While they are "off the beaten path", that's part of the charm. We would return in a heartbeat. Four days wasn't enough.

  • Liked — Isolated beautiful location
  • Disliked — slight inconvenience that private, very nice washroom facilities were on ground floor, while bedroom is upstairs

“The road less traveled but worth it.”

Croft3 has charm, comfort, hospitality and lovely, fresh homemade breakfasts. Janet and Chris are good hosts who know their area and go out of their way to make you welcome. It is rather off the beaten track, so make sure you travel in daylight and have accurate directions. The scenery is truly spectacular and worth the drive.

  • Liked — It's location, library, hosts and food.
  • Disliked — The bed was not comfortable, it lacked proper bedside reading lamps and there was no mirror in the room.

“Hospitality beyond words”

This B&B made our trip to Skye special and memorable!

When we arrived, our hosts, Chris and Janet, welcomed us, then ushered us into the lounge where there was a welcoming coal fire in the fireplace, a sidebar with tea and snacks, lounging chairs, articles and books written by our host as well as other reading material. They showed us our bathroom, clean and full of whatever we might want or need. Then they led us to our room upstairs,
which had a lovely view of the Waternish point out the front and a view of their gardens and the moors beyond out the back window. The wind was howling and we couldn?t wait to curl up in the comfy bed.

However, we had requested dinner, which was an excellent decision. It was a delicious, home cooked meal which included a glass of wine, salad freshly picked from their garden, sliced beef, coleslaw, potatoes, home made bread, and fresh fruit with cream for desert. Perfect after a busy day and too much restaurant food in the past few days!

Chris and Janet only take one set of guests at a time so you are catered to individually and have full use of all areas described, as they stay in a separate area of the house. They are very accommodating and we felt like we were staying with friends instead of being guests, a very fine distinction.

The next morning, after an outstanding breakfast, we set out on a
prearranged hike with Chris, which was exceptional as Chris is a naturalist and told us all about the flora and fauna and showed us the nest of a peregrine falcon with his telescope.

Before we left Janet brought us some scones for our journey. Our big mistake was only allowing one night here as we were distressed at having to leave so soon.

For location, atmosphere, cleanliness, great food, and friendliness of the hosts, we rated Croft 3 our favorite B&B of our entire trip!!!

  • Liked — scenery; friendly hosts; quality food
  • Disliked — nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — Include a hike with the host; it was fantastic!
