We took advantage of a dinner, bed and breakfast offer and were very impressed with the value and service provided. All staff seemed friendly and effective, the food was good, especially the breakfast.
With it's avocado suite and plastic wood, the room was a little dated in taste but in good order and very clean and right for the price.
All in all, no complaints and a good choice for an out of town location.

The Crown is just nicely "off the beaten track" yet well located near the M6, the fabulously 'toy set' Wetheral railway station and in the midst of the splendour of Cumbria and Northumberland.

After an interesting day walking parts of the amazing Roman Wall and a great drive along the military road it was sooooo relaxing in the Crown's pool,sauna and steam room.

The hotel is modestly comfortable but in many ways under rated at 3 stars. Feels harsh to say but bedrooms are at the point where the en suite facilities could do with updating. The hotel has a cottage feel despite being surprisingly large. The place however has a lovely atmosphere and felt quite select and luxurious.

Certainly after a day in the countryside the relaxation was amazing and the bed one of the most comfortable we have ever slept upon.

The conservatory restaurant stands out as first rate in quality, ambience and charming, professional staff. Pleasant lounge bar with decent range of whiskey or visit pub bar elsewhere in the hotel (we didn't get to call in at Walton's bar this trip ... next time!) Menu varied, substantially portioned, very tasty and expertly presented. This quality was evident at breakfast time too and with glorious morning views over spectacular countryside.

We loved it and will definitely return. Highly recommended but make a reasonable allowance for being 3 stars. There appears to be no lift and Wetheral is very quiet but the Crown makes a lovely relaxing stop over for a great drive whether exploring this beautiful and historic area or en route to Bonnyrigg Scotland.

I have stayed at the Crown on business trips several times. It is convenient for Carlisle and the surrounding area, whether travel is by car (the M6 junction is very close) or train to Carlisle. The rooms are pleasant - I prefer the old part, but the rooms in the newer area are more than adequate. The food (in restaurant and bar) is very good and the staff delightful. The surrounding area provides a pleasant walk after a hard day.

i have stayed here a few times on business trips and find it very welcoming, I used it recently for a social engagement and took my wife, my only criticism was having made the reservation via my office and used the corporate rate they charged me for additional occupancy, I have never experienced this anywhere else, friends who were with me booked via a hotel booking service and got thier double £30 cheaper. I did raise it with reception when I checked out but they would not change rate. In all other respects this is very good hotel.
