“our 2nd., stay at "THE OLDE BULL HOTEL"”

This was our second visit to the olde bull and nothing has changed, its warm friendly and welcoming. The Hosts, Patrick and his Mum Val are lovely down to earth people and do their utmost to make your stay a relaxing and pleasurable one.

The room I chose when booking was the gold room, but when we arrived Patrick, had upgraded the room to the Blue room which was much bigger, the bed was comfy and gave us both a good nights sleep which was needed after a long journey, in the room was tea and coffee making facilities, ensuite shower and loo which was very clean, large Tv, Fresh clean towels daily, plenty of draws and large wardrobe with full lenght mirror, just what a girl needs!!

Breakfast was a choice of cereals, yogurt, toast, full English, Fresh coffee/ tea and fruit juice and it was an excellant Breakfast Thanks Val.

Location is excellant just a short walk in to the Town centre, and what a lovely walk it is passing all the historical buildings and quaint Suffolk shops and just a few minutes away from the river stour with veiws of some lovely country side.

Must also mention the Hotel dates back to 1540, so if you can imagine it, has loads of character, check it out online.
Thank you all for a memorable stay and has the saying goes we'll be back!!

The worst place I have stayed in. It was dirty, shabby, grimey and no hot water. Breakfast was OK. I advise everybody to stay clear of this place.

“A stay of two stories”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

When you arrive there is a good chance you will enter thru the restaurant door rather then the side street one as the impression you get coming from the carpark implies that's the way in. Either way once inside you will receive a very warm welcome and the antiquated charm of the building and its layout will no doubt win you over...the stenna stairlift and lack of bannister forewarn you of the possible anomalies you may encounter during your stay.

Our room was the former brewer's bedroom and was bizarrely accessed thru the ensuite bathroom which had a large jacuzzi bath in one corner - a bonus, we thought. The bedroom itself was presentable with an extremely comfy four poster bed. Following the operating instructions for the jaccuzi on the bathroom wall, we filled said jaccuzi up above the jets, remembering not to use bubble bath. To our dismay, we realised on entering the water that it was extremely luke warm and there was no more hot water in the tap! Nevermind, we thought, we will enjoy the bubbles! However...on pressing the required jet start button absolutely nothing happened and we were left staring at flat water. We managed to overcome this obstacle. We then tackled the handbasin which funnily enough had hot water but alarmingly had the most disconcerting gurgling noise when emptying of water. Not to be outdone, the toilet equally emitted its own tuneful melody on flushing. Fortunately the owners of The Old Bull are planning to refurbish the bathroom in the near future.

We chose to eat in the restaurant and enjoyed a delightful meal which we cooked ourselves on the heated rock. In conjunction with our meal, we got chatting with Sean who gave us a history of The Old Bull, part of which used to be a brewery, together with some valuable tips on local places to visit. Following a good night's sleep, breakfast cooked by Valerie was very tasty and set us up for the day.

Despite the idiosyncracies of the en suite, our night at The Old Bull was a surprising treat and we would certainly revisit - hopefully when the outdated jacuzzi has been replaced with something more adequate for bathing!
