“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

We were going to a wedding near Sudbury and the hotel where most of the other guests had booked into (the Mill) was fully booked. The next place I called was the Olde Bull and I'm so glad they had a room for us, we loved staying here! It's a very unique timbered building dating from 1540, you won't stay in many places that look like this. I'm not sure what the other rooms look like but we had the Brown Room, which was small but really authentic looking, even featuring a minstrel's gallery in the room! The furnishings are maybe a little retro and it's not a luxury 4 star hotel but for the price it's fantastic, you really can't complain. The bed was really comfortable, we got the friendliest greeting ever from the owner, Patrick, and breakfasts were great. There is a lot of traffic going by the hotel at all times so it's not the quietest place ever but there's not much you can do about that, it's in a good position to walk to the town centre from. I should also mention the owner's dog, Fritz the mini dachshund, I've never come across a dog I adored so much! If we were ever in Sudbury another time we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The Brown Room faces the street so has a lot of traffic noise, but it's also very medieval looki...

“Spur of the moment stay & well worth it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

We pulled in (at the wrong entrance) for a drink not realising it was a B&B and were immediately met by the lady of the establishment coming out to move her car, shortly followed by the owner (her son Patrick) wondering what was going on. We were tired after a long drive & needed refreshment before another long drive home. We were made to feel swiftly at ease with drinks & shown to the garden or lounge, although Im sure they could have done without our intrusion. Patrick was very friendly & informed us of the history of the place which is amazingly old & lovely. We then decided to stay overnight if there was room & were given the Blue Room at short notice. Bed was sooooo comfy with crisp white sheets & room is large with everything you could possibly want. Next morning our delicious breakfast was cooked by Mum Valerie who was also very friendly & we enjoyed a lovely chat with her too. Thank you both we would certainly come again if in the area & recommend you!! You gave two weary travellers a very reasonable bed for the night, wont forget your hospitality. Lesley & Ron

Room Tip: No tips, all rooms good im sure!

“I cant understand the good comments!”

I was very disappointed by this place. The hotel had no atmosphere. I didnt see any sign of life in the bar or restaurant. The carpets were shabby, the electrics dodgy. It really did need some attention. I just wanted to leave as soon as i got there. Terrible gravel car park. Really needs some warming up as a hotel. Overpriced as it is.

“Very Welcoming and comfortable”

Cant believe negative comments for this hotel. For goodness sake building dates from 1540 but someone said the place was dated. Think it would be!!! The owner and his mum are lovely, friendly and very welcoming. The breakfast was appetising and the room extremely comfortable. Would definitley return and look forward to it.
