had great time ....food excellent. the braised beef and accompanying veg (all 5 of them !!) were very plentiful an cooked perfect ( chef note though...easy on the salt in the red wine sauce eh !) staff very friendly and good fun. Breakfast was one of the best ever had...really set us up for the day
room was very nice though shower was a bit of a trickle but for one night was no big deal .....had a great birthday and wouldnt hesitate to recommend or go back again

“We Love it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2008

My wife and I love the pub and area, always eat great food and drink plenty of well kept ale, having stayed a number of times I would always recommend the "Pack" and all the many walks we have enjoyed.

  • Liked — Very Clean

“Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2008

When we arrived the reception was pleasant and helpful right from the start! The Gentleman behind the bar ensured we we happy and settled. The food was absolutely spot on and the breakfast was a great start to the day. Very popular with the locals and a friendly atmosphere all round! would definately recommend!

“Food and service?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2008

My review relates to the food rather than the accomodation, basically the food was of poor quality, the bar menu looks impressive but when the meals arrive that soon changes, the pannini's were drab and were flowered up with too much salad and not alot of thought. Basically I wont be eating there again, because other meals looked just as poor as ours. The service, the landlord made no effort to make you feel welcome, and any questions were met with a vacant look, and the staff were unfriendly. Other customers were asking about why they hadnt received their food, and once they returned to their table the landlord, bar staff and a local drinker, began to openly talk about this particular customer like 'how dare they ask me that!', basically slagging them off. As well as talking bout other recent customers, ie phsyical appearance, all of which they found very funny. All of the above was within clear ear shot of my wife and I and we were disgusted, unprofessional and rude springs to mind. !!!!!!!!!!
Basically a waste of 25 pounds, and with alot of friends and family who eat in the area, i will make every effort to put them off going here. I suggest you do the same.!

“Sorry to inconvenience you....”

Stayed for 2 nights in October. We've stayed elsewhere in the Peaks since. Beer and food were fine, no complaints. The staff were much more interested in looking after the locals than us 'outsiders' though, to the point of serving people behind us at the bar. I recommend the Little John instead.
