“Distinctly different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

I love this place. The windmill is perched above the town and there are few better views than the golden sandstone of the town, nestled into the valley. You would love it if you like to be in the centre of Bradford, great views,a home filled with esoteric and diverse materials and a wonderful range of organic cooked to order breakfasts. It probably isn't your thing if you are looking for a more anonymous modern hotel where you can come and go as you please. The parking is a bit of a hassle - the windmill is at the end of a shared laneway & you have to park exactly where you are asked to in order that others can squeeze past. The decor is quirky, but would benefit from an update - not much seems to have changed since it opened in the late 80s. The hostess Priscilla was unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful. As I said I love it to bits, but I can see how for many people it would be a reasonably expensive option with probably more than the usual number of rules about what you can and can't do.

“A pleasant change from the usual”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011 via mobile

Beautiful views conveniently sat within walking distance of Bradford on Avon. Very relaxing quirky B&B with a warm welcome from the hostess. Some of the other reviews are somewhat unfairly severe when you consider that this is someone's home. Would definitely recommend it for an easy going break away from city life.

“What a nightmare!”

Only stay here if you like to be told exactly how to park your car, exactly where to sit at breakfast, get kicked out in the daytime even if you're ill with food poisoning and like to listen to new age bird sounds whilst looking at toy birds in a cage over breakfast. Need I say more?

Room Tip: Round Bed doesn't look round but bathroom is nice

We are quite upset by all the negative comment about the parking difficulties here. We are simply trying to reduce the nuisance to our neighbours as much as we can and enable all our guests to park off the road in our drive. We try to make the difficulties clear on our web site and in our confirmation information so that those who dislike prescriptive parking or have large cars can choose to stay in a more spacious B&B.

I am surprised that Tripadvisor readers continue to stay here after reading all the comments about parking if they do not like to be directed.

“Doesn't live up to the description on its website”

We too were greeted with the "rules'' and told to repark the car notwithstanding that I had used one of the spaces shown in the map on their website. We were told no baths after 22:00 in case the noise disturbed other guests and that under no circumstances did they allow guests to be in the house when they were out. This was a blow as my husband wasn't well at the time (he was waiting to go into hospital) and would have liked an afternoon nap. We had to stay out all day as our hosts had decided to go and visit a garden exhibition that day. Had we known this in advance we wouldn't have booked.

Our room (the one with the round bed) smelled musty and was none too clean. I dare say the surfaces were dusted regularly but it contained a great many objects d'art which had accumulated dust over the years. The soft furnishings were worn and grubby looking.

When I made the reservation I booked dinner for our first night and told our hostess that my husband couldn't manage highly spiced food. Nothing more was said about food so I expected there would be a limited choice but, no, the menu was pre-determined and unchangeable and, you've guessed it, it included both chilli and something I don't like (lentils). Our hostess was quite short with us when I asked if there was an alternative. In any event the meal was quite mediocre.

This was our first experience of a "distinctly different" property and on the strength of this I'd be reluctant to try another.

“Very different with fun surprises!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2010

We stayed here for our anniversary and were very pleasantly surprised at all the fun quirks! A round bed, swinging chair and a jacuzzi bath tub!! Lovely place, lovely owner and yummy healthy breakfast. Have already recommended to friends and family, hopr to come back someday. Also close to Longleat for daytime fun too!
