“Quite a bit shabby, a little bit chic, with utterly delicious food. Perfect for kids.”
We went to Woolley Grange for a three day break over half term, with Grandma and two girls in tow. We left it a little late to book and could only get a family room outside, which was a bit like being in a pre-fab on the runway at Heathrow (we tried to get the outside lights turned off to no avail, in fact, my husband got up at 3am to switch them off, only to find them switched on again at 5am.).
Grandma though had a gorgeous room in the main house, which was all higgeldy piggeldy and utterly delightful in a real shabby chic, nothing matches and it feels like home kind of way.
The kids' club was fabulous, and the grounds beautiful. I would love to see them in summer time, and use the pool.
The location is excellent - we went to Longleat Safari park one day, which the children loved. And we took the train to Bath, which was a great day out. Bradford upon Avon is a fabulous day out and we recommend the Bridge Tea Rooms for lunch/afternoon tea.
The real highlight of Woolley Grange was the food, it was excellent and I couldn't find any fault with anything I ate. The wine list was also good, comprehensive and not too ourtrageously priced.
The communal sitting room was comfortable and cosy, the roaring fire really atmospheric and welcoming.
The staff were all very friendly, willing and helpful, though the service was rather random. I think one night we had to ask for our wine 3 times, but it did eventually arrive about 40 minutes after we'd ordered it.
The children loved Woolley Grange, so many interesting things for them to explore, and they loved the kids club (even the 7 year old, though I think she was getting rather old for it).
We would go back, but next time, I'd book early and make sure I had a room inside the main house, or at least not in the pre-fab type block. Although the room was clean and comfortable, paint was peeling off the wall by the bath, there was an obvious leak from the bath, and as for those lights.... not much sleep was had at all. We did ask Reception to turn the lights off at some stage but it didn't happen. When we left, I suggested that they fit a sensor, so the lights will turn on when people need to get to their room, and then go off, to allow others to sleep.
Room Tip: Book a room in the main house if possible.

I am sorry the Pavilion rooms were not to your taste. We describe them as more contemporary so if you are looking for a traditionally styled room, they are located in the Main House, Stone Cottage and Coach House. We will investigate the maintenance issues. The lights are left on so guests can see where they are walking and aid exit in the event of a fire. We have not put them on a sensor as having them coming on and off could be more disturbing. We will look into black out lining on the curtians which should help reduce any light seeping in.
I am delighted you enjoyed all the other aspects of your stay at Woolley and the surrounding area and look forward to welcoming you back.
