“Very good for the price, convenient location”

I have reviewed this based upon the type of stay and hotel expected from a cheap Travelodge as I can hardly compare it to 5 star hotels.

I booked it with one of their deals so only paid an excellent £25 a night per room. This is one of the better Travelodges I have stayed in. Whilst the room was 'tired' in appearance it was clean, warm, comfortable and had hot water. It is located on a roundabout but not a particularly busy one. We had a room facing away from the roundabout so noise wasn't really an issue despite not having double glazing. Perhaps rooms facing the other way would be noiser but take some ear plugs just in case, after all, Travelodges are located for their convenience to roads not landscape and tranquility value. You can also walk into the centre of Skipton easily enough so we ate our evening meals there rather than the on-site Little Chef. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from roundabout are probably quieter

“Good value, clean enough- would stay again”

Standard travelodge-but great value if you can book at a sale price.
The staff were friendly, the room clean and entirely adequate.
Had a ground floor room and confirm previous reviews that water pressure was not the greatest, but there was water and it was hot.
Breakfast options in Skipton centre offer more variety, value and quality than the associated Little Chef- although if you walk it is a 20-25 minute stroll.

“Worst travelodge ive ever stayed in...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Booked this hotel for two nights in early January 2012 as a weekend away. Hotel is situated about 2 miles out of skipton close to nearby exit roads to get around the dales. Previous reviews have said it is very noisy on a roundabout however we didnt find this to be too much of an issue, as we were at the front end of the hotel. The hotel itself is very basic and in need of a huge refurbishment to bring it into the 21st century. Reception staff whilst pleasant were not over friendly and didnt seem to be enjoying doing their job. The room itself was room 20 and on the 2nd floor. Bathroom was small and the bath not even long enough to fit an adult in, the water takes an absolute age to fill the bath (a good 30 minutes to have a good bath) and it varies from boiling hot to freezing cold and you have no control over what temp the water is. In the room there is only one very small heater that when you first enter the room it is absolutley freezing and takes a good 5-6 hours to warm up. Our second night was the complete opposite and the room was so hot it was unbarable, there was no inbetween - freezing or boiling hot. The television was very basic and very old, the picture was poor and very fuzzy on almost all the channels (you only get around 10 channels as well) which in 2012 is not standard for a hotel. The bed itself was fairly comfortable, the sheets however needed a good wash because they look stained. The sofa bed was also very stained and in need of replacing, it was the most uncomfortable bed to sleep it, very itchy and rough. Tea and coffee facilities were poor for the price we paid, only four coffee sachets (for two people per day) not enough and we found ourselves purchasing milk and coffee from the local supermarket. Facilities at the hotel were poor, only a small little chef (that was almost always closed) and a small burger king, the site could do with a good toby carvery. Overall if your thinking of using this travelodge then please think twice before you book, it is in need of much work and a change of management.

“Giving Travelodge a bad name”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We've used Travelodges for short breaks for years and always found they offer value for money. We rarely pay full price and I suppose we're about due a 'get what you pay for' stay. The room had an odd aroma of carpet cleaner, dog hairs on the duvet, a sticky bathroom floor and very mouldy windows. We were able to study many varieties of fungi native to Yorkshire for which we should be grateful. I was also able to relive my childhood. Remember Sunday nights (hairwash night in our house) where your Mum would fix the rubber attachment to the taps and scrub away at your scalp with Vosene for what seemed like an eternity? Do you recall how there were two heat settings - scalding hot or freezing cold? Well thanks to Travelodge Skipton I was taken to a place long forgotten where I could relive those dramatic temperature changes, under a shower suitable for a Hobbit. All that was missing was the Vosene. And my Mum. To top it all off, we were on the ground floor, underneath what appeared to be a family of restless buffalo. We asked to be moved to a different room (before the ceiling fell in) but were met with indifference from the manager. As I said, we've stayed in Travelodges for years, but this kind of experience left us considering whether to do so again.

Room Tip: If there is a decent room anywhere in this Travelodge I'd love to find it

“Never ever ever again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I agree with the previous negative reviews - this is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. Booked 3 nights in a family room over New Year. The beds were not made up on arrival and when we raised it as an issue, the receptionist told us ALL rooms were family rooms, therefore they didnt make up any beds (other than the double). Given that i had 2 children with me, i was naturally ticked-off about this as i had to make up 2 additional beds for them to sleep in and had to request the bedding with which to do so. And then the additional towels. Only 1 pillow was supplied each and it was obviously an old one. To say that the accomodation was basic would be an understatement. There was only 1 plug in the entire room so i couldnt dry my hair and boil the kettle at the same time. All this however would be forgivable if it hadnt been for the bathroom. It was absolutely disgraceful. Dirty around and behind the taps; tiles were 25 years old minimum and still stained from when it was acceptable to smoke in hotel rooms. The shower was laughable. The water pressure was intermittent therefore it was pot-luck as to whether you could actually have a shower or not. Horrendous. Simply horrendous. We brought our concerns to the receptionist who was unsympathetic explaining that the room cost was reflective of the condition of the hotel, that it was 'tired' and there were no other rooms he could give us. I will never go back and i will certainly explore ALL other avenues before ever booking Travellodge in the future.
