In December my husband and his company held their christmas meal at The George and very much enjoyed it, which in turn led us to booking a table for a valentines meal. My husband ordered from the main menu and I ordered Sizzling Sweet Chilli Chicken from the specials menu. Unfortunatley when our meals arrived mine was neither sizzling nor very appetising. I have to say it left me intrigued as to how you cook two breasts of chicken and make them over cooked and still look anaemic. I suspect the over cooking came from the chicken sitting in either a warming drawer or under a heat lamp as the very ends of the chicken were dry and brown. We decided to order pudding and having seen plates of lovely looking apple pie be delivered to other tables I ordered apple pie with custard and my husband ordered the Banoffee Tart. When our desserts turned up it was almost comical as we realised that the custard was Ambrosia custard straight out of a tin ( it has a unique smell all of its own), the pastry was raw and looked like it may have been reheated in a microwave as it was soggy and hotter in the centre than it was anywhere else. My husbands banoffee tart was interesting he's never had toffee sauce that could be lifted from the pie in one peice and hold it's shape. again the pastry was inedible and the bananas were brown. Soldiering on as we so rarely get time away from our family life I ordered a Calypso Coffee it was delivered to the table without sugar and when I asked for some I was told that it was already in the coffee. Turns out it wasn't and eventually I was brought sugar during this time I realised that the Tia Maria was barely there and the coffee was cold! All in all a disppointing meal made more disappointing by the fact that there were staff in the dining room in casual clotihng that clearly wasn't part of the uniform and our waiter seemed to have a limited grasp on english and manners.
