We found ourselves here by accident after the hotel we had booked ourselves in to, The Elephant and Castle at Wood Walton, double booked us and thought they would solve the issue by reserving us the last room here, but that's another rant for another review.
We had booked our original hotel for a peaceful weekend in the countryside, and above all, a good night's sleep to get away from noisy neighbours at home. Redwings Lodge is right next to the A1. Our room didn't face the road but the windows were completely inadequate to block out the road noise and we may as well have been in the middle of central reservation. The floorboards of the room above were squeaky and we could hear every footstep from the people upstairs. Our room was also opposite the main bar/breakfst area so there was a lot of foot traffic and as the football was on at arrival we could hear all the noise from that as well. And to top it all, we could only pick up three television channels on the TV. It simply wasn't what we had booked up for so we left and stayed with family for the night instead.
All of that said, the room was a good size, clean and well stocked with tea/coffee refreshments. The receptionist was a total pleasure. She was so sypathetic towards us and a real assett to the hotel.
The road noise on the A1 does quieten down later at night so if you're just looking for somewhere to put your head overnight on a long trip then this hotel would be just fine, but if you're looking for anything more (e.g. a base for exploring the area for a few days) I'd generally avoid it.
