“The Old Bridge Hotel: I thought I had died and gone to Heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I stayed 3 nights at The Old Bridge last week. It was a wonderful experience and although I was on business, it actually seemed like a holiday! Everything was so well done. The food, wine and service were excellent. My room was elegant and comfortable without being tricksy or pretentious. The ambience was great - I think it came from the staff being friendly and working as a team. They seemed to love their work and got on well together. I will be back.

“60th Birthday, Family Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

On 14th January my husband and I shared our joint 60th celebrations with our close family of 18 adults and 7 grandchildren. We had hired the dining room and have to say that we were treated like royalty! Every member of staff went out of their way to be helpful and made us feel very comfortable about having the children around, being children! All our guests (our children and their in-laws) were impressed with the standard of food and choice in the menu, as well as the service and surroundings too.We were left to celebrate at our own pace, never feeling rushed to eat or move out.
My husband and I stayed overnight in Room 10, which was wonderful, and enjoyed breakfast the following morning. It was all very good value for the whole experience.
Thank you to everyone at The Old Bridge, for making our celebration memorable for all the right reasons!

Room Tip: Room 10 has a large bathroom with roll-top bath and large shower.

“Excellent Christmas Dinner Party”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We have had mixed results in the past for our Work Christmas Parties at various locations around Huntingdon but last weekend we had our best ever Christmas Party at the Old Bridge.
As there was 80 of us, we hired the Terrace restaurant and the downstairs room/bar for the event.
The Staff - We were looked after incredibly well and all the staff were helpful and friendly. The staff to guest ratio was very high which ensured a very efficient service and no waiting at the bar!! The wine that we pre-ordered was not just placed on the table, rather they kept us topped up all evening. Our main contact, Nicola, helped us organise everything perfectly and Steven, our contact on the night ensured it all ran smoothly.
The Hotel should be very proud of their staff as everyone we met went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great evening.
The Venue - The terrace restaurant looked magical with lots of tiny lights and lovely christmas trees outside. The hotel itself has a lovely ambience and it certainly will not be my last visit.
The Food - The meal was easily the best Christmas meal I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The starter was either Pumpkin soup or pheasant terrrine and the main course was either Turkey, Ox Cheek or a layered vegetarian option. The dessert was either Christmas Pudding or a chocolate marquise (we were told that it was a cake but turned out to be a mousse but it was lovely all the same). We were thrilled to find out that the Christmas puddings were available to buy in the wine shop!
The Wine - We chose the cheapest red and white option but they tasted so much nicer than you would expect from standard house wines.
Overall - I would recommend this as a great venue for a Christmas Party.

“Am I missing something”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

We were due to go for Sunday Lunch here but as we had been staying the night before in Birmingham and had a large breakfast did not fancy a 3 course lunch. Whilst my companions had a drink I took a little walk and found a small pub up the road that could fit us in(The Black Bull). We had an excellent Sunday lunch at a very good price. My wife really liked the look of the Old Bridge though so I said we would go on another occasion.
As it was her 60th a short time later I booked a table for 12 people. The food was average, as was the service and unlike other comments the food did not come out together. There were a number of things I was not pleased with and considering the price I was not at all impressed. I contacted the hotel and they offered me a complementary meal for two with wine which was fair enough.
I took up this offer and went for Sunday lunch. Once again the food and service were average. I was a chef for over 20 years and feel I know enough to see when I am getting value for money. I know that if I am in Huntington in the future I will call at the Black Bull. It may not have the same ambiance but the food is far superior at a quarter of the price.

I am obviously very sorry that this reviewer was disappointed a second time. After the first visit he spoke to Nina Beamond, our Manager, who apologised and provided some gift vouchers for a future visit. He has evidently used the vouchers recently and, sadly, was not won over the second time round.
I own and run a small but busy hotel and I know we try our hardest to achieve the highest standards all the time. Our busy restaurant indicates, I hope, that we do have general success.
However we are human and so we do make mistakes! This is the first I have heard of any problems with a Sunday lunch in November so I hope the reviewer will be in touch with me directly. If I can find out a little more then I may be able to do something about it. Any hotel owner would love the chance to deal with a problem when it occurs, rather than afterwards.
I am glad to hear that The Black Bull is so highly recommended. We wish all our local pub-restaurants well.
