Only to be reached by boat (or by scooter if you would), met by friendly staff a wonderful secluded resort awaited us. One can choose between a nice little house or a full Balinese cottage, Bale included. We enjoyed the privacy and space of our cottage ('Villa') equipped with a rather out of place modern bath tub. Most of all, snorkling around and above the coral reefs in front of the resort is a great experience, even for those used to explore tropical waters.
One has no need at all to leave the peninsula, although one might be tempted for a walk in the National Park or to go diving around the island opposite. Wherever you go, staff is available and very helpful. Personally, we even experienced the hospitality of one of them at his place at home at a celebration with his family: a great experience of real Balinese life !
One warning: take your plastic swimming shoes with you, as the coral is very sharp. Also, flies are as annoying as the staff is friendly ....... But other animals, like deer, wild boar and monkeys are less annoying and not dangerous, even when roaming around your house.
Don't expect a luxurous hotel with Wifi on the beach (although available at certain areas), but be sure that it will meet all your expectations of a holiday away from anything, except nature and quiet, clear waters.
