“Nicely converted barn overlooking Bala lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011 via mobile

The tithe barn 1 has been converted very thoughtfully & has lots of character. It is lovely & warm with plenty of hot water whenever you want it. It has everything you might need for your stay. The ceiling height was perfect for me but would be difficult in the bathrooms if you were tall!! Would recommend for a getaway (but it's not quite as quiet as I expected as it is literally by a "main" road).

“A beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Myself and my partner were looking for a relaxing long weekend away and this was the perfect place. We were made to feel extremely welcome by Ray and Lindsay, who then proceeded to make the most amazing breakfasts we'd ever had! The house itself was gorgeous and the kind we could only dream of owning. We of course hope to return again in the future and if possible stay even longer.

“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Our stay was all too brief but I would highly recomend Abercelyn. Wonderful cake, breakfast and every detail is thought of in the rooms. We hope to return for a longer stay in the future. Thanks Ray and Lindsay!

“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed at Abercelyn for the Bala triathlon week-end and enjoyed our stay very much.On our arrival we were met by Lindsay who made us feel welcome and made us cup of tea and a lovely piece of her homemade cake. Abercelyn is a beautiful country house and has a lovely garden which unfortunately we did not have time to explore. Breakfast was excellent with homemade bread and a lovely cooked breakfast with fresh orange juice and homemade bread and preserves. There was so much to choose from on the breakfast menu it was amazing. Our room was great and we loved the window seats and whirlpool bath. Lindsay and Ray even offered the use of a shower for my husband who was competing in the triathlon even though we had checked out on the Sunday morning of the event. My husband was also able to store his bike. We would certainly stay again and recommend this hotel to anyone for a very relaxing break. What a wonderful find.

“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We have just returned from a great short holiday staying at Abercelyn, which is a house full of character ... and also having a beautiful garden with a stream. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival by Lindsay, and immediately offered tea and lemon sponge cake! Our room was lovely, spacious and comfortably furnished in keeping with the house, with an excellent en-suite bathroom including a Jacuzzi type bath (ideal after a long cycle ride!).
We slept well and breakfast each morning was excellent, comprising of fresh fruit and preserves from the garden ... plus the all important wonderful cooked breakfasts, with eggs from their own hens! Our requirements were met in every way and nothing was too much trouble for Lindsay or Ray in making sure we had everything we needed ... our grateful thanks to them both.
As well as the excellent accommodation, Abercelyn is in an ideal location for exploring around Bala. We had a great time cycling around the lake on one day, and on another ... doing the picturesque cycle route from Dolgellau to Barmouth on the disused railway line. On the only wet day, we explored the slate mine at Ffestiniog Blaenau which was most interesting. All in all, our few days were very enjoyable and we would definitely recommend this superior Guest House to other people
