“See beyond the exterior”

Several reviewers have commented on the location and there is no escaping that it is pretty ordinary, being in a small, ordinary suburb some miles from Avignon (10?). However once inside the hotel it is an oasis of peace. Spa facilities are excellent, rooms a reaonable size, with mine looking out over the gardens and the food is outstanding, with superb fish and desserts. Wine is expensive. The hotel is not far from the autoroute so if you have a car it is easy to get around the region. If you don't have a car I would consider another hotel.

“Delighted”

We stayed at this lovely Auberge for one night, we chose it from a Smartbox gift and we were absolutely delighted. Right from the moment we arrived, from the Front of House staff who were professional, welcoming and warm to the presentation of our bedroom by a very personnable young man we realised we were in another world. Our bedroom was on the ground floor, with a terrace. The room was very tastefully decorated, the bed was huge and comfortable. We enjoyed the bathroom facitities too, light, airy and well equiped, a bath with massage jets and a spacious separate shower and so many complimentary bits and bobs!!!: The Auberge was very busy but we were impressed by the way the restaurant took care of the needs of each and every client with smiles and efficiency. The evening meal presentation was so very well executed, we watched as it flowed gently around each table, like a dance. The attention to detail was obvious, both from a service point of view and from the formidable gourment experience which followed. Every dish was a delight, colourful, imaginative and quite simply excellent.
Returning to our room after dining we walked through the garden bought to life by a subtle system of lighting, it was almost magical. The extra touches of popping into the room to turn down the bed, close the shutters, put on the bedside lights and to change the used towels were much appreciated. along with the newsletter to inform us of 'what's on' in the region.
There was no outside noise to disturb our sleep.
The breakfast was served in the dining room, the buffet was plentiful, well presented and restocked permenantly. As most of last nights guests seemed to arrive for breakfast at the same time we would only congratulate the staff as they dealt with the obvious pressure
Well done ladies and gentlemen, you did a fantastic job.

“Trying to think of something bad to say”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

I’m trying to think, let’s see…what is something negative about the Auberge de Cassagne? After all, a review is more believable if you don’t say everything was perfect.

No alarm clock in the room maybe? But since hotel alarm clocks are as rare as pay phones these days I’m not really sure that qualifies. €25 per person for the breakfast buffet perhaps? Pricey, yes, but more common than not in most hotels lately so I can’t say that’s unusual (the reason why we seldom eat breakfast in our hotels).

Oh well, alarm clocks and breakfast aside, as far as I’m concerned the Auberge de Cassagne is just about as close to perfection as a hotel gets – comfortable, attractively decorated rooms, beautiful surroundings, fantastic food, a spa area and friendly staff. And did I mention the free parking? How rare in Europe is that!

Our room, tucked away in the luxuriant courtyard garden, felt more like a private bungalow than a hotel room. The spa’s hammam, sauna, indoor pool and hot tub are free to guests and after a long drive were very welcome indeed.

For dinner the night of our stay, we took the “Decouverte de Cassagne” menu. Expensive but worth every penny. The cheese selection was outstanding. This was French dining at its very best — incredible food, impeccable service — as with the rest of the hotel, we were not deceived.

“The best holiday we have had in a while”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We liked everything about it, the room was big with plenty of storage space, the pool was area was fantastic (could have been something to do with the good weather at the time), and the food - just out of this world and the staff friendly and helpful. The only downside was 25 Euros for breakfast we thought a bit steep! We don't often return to the same hotels for holidays but will definitely come back here.

Room Tip: This hotel is in the middle of nowhere so definitely need a car if planning on eating out.
