“Keep driving past this one... Even if you have already booked!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

Friendly staff does not make up for tiny room, squeaky bed on any movement, tired decor in severe need of renovation. Shower resembled a porta-loo! Breakfast average. We travelled in 2010, and most of the other reviews on this site still ring true (ie. nothing has changed). Pub up the hill (Salutation hotel???) served best meal all weekend! See if you can stay there instead... 79 Quid was horribly overpriced for this two star place.

“The Food Was Good...”

I stumbled across the Cothi Bridge hotel by accident, starting my return trip from West Wales. The staff were welcoming and friendly which was encouraging. Luckily, there was a twin bedded room available for the night. Although it was clean, the decor left much to be desired. Some "cosmetic" work had at some time been undertaken in the room, but it was of such a poor quality, it almost fell into the "bodged" category. Having said that, the beds were comfortable and the room quiet.
Meals can be taken in the bar, or the restaurant, which had a far better menu. I opted for the restaurant, only to be told it was fully booked, though only 3 tables were occupied. After explaining we were residents, and prepared to eat immediately, a table was found. The restaurant staff were efficient and friendly, one of the waitresses having only started that day. The food was of a good quality.
The hotel is set alongside the River Cothi, making it a pleasant setting to have a drink outside, or a stroll along the riverbank.
To sumarise, I have stayed in better decorated hotels, but given the efforts by the staff, I would stay there again if in the area.

“A little seedy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2008

Received by a man in a Bermuda shirt whose attitude bordered on the surly. Furnishings in the room were tired and the bathroom had lots of mould on the tile grout. The shower cabinet, although newish, was a nasty, small, cheap and plastic.
Only two tea bags and two coffee sachets were provided in the room and there was no information about the hotel facilities or the surrounding area.
The restaurant food and service was ultra cheap B&B standard, for example, our bottle of wine (screw top) was just brought and plonked on the table with the comment "there you are".
Breakfast was largely DIY. Make your own toast and, your own INSTANT coffee from a hot water urn. The standard of the Breakfast itself can be indicated by the fact that the mushrooms and sausages were cooked in a deep fat fryer.
All the waiting staff were very pleasant and friendly but seemed to have few service skills.
The location of the hotel is superb but we had to discover, by accident, the fabulous riverside walk, which begins alongside the hotel. Such a pity that no help or advice was provided.
This is not a cheap hotel and, when we next visit this area, we will look for an up market B&B as, the advantage of having a Bar/restaurant was cancelled out by the seedy surroundings.

  • Liked — Location and scenery
  • Disliked — crummy decor and poor food and service.

“Awful hotel one to miss!”

The hotel from the pictures looks nice enough. It has a good impression once you arrive outside. Once inside the place is in need of some major redecoration. We paid £79 for a double room. This was absolutely tiny. The TV was on a table next to the bed with very poor reception and also very small. The bed on close inspection was dirty. It looked like someone had left something on the bed (I will not describe) which obviously had not been washed. The other thing was that they got our booking incorrect. Asked for two doubles got a double and a single. The breakfast had a good choice. Though the full (Welsh) was swimming in grease this explained the funny smell to the hotel. The sausage was very cheap with only one mushroom straight out of a tin i believe. If I had more time I would have booked another hotel as this was the pits. I feel ripped off. Wales have some lovely places but this is not one of them!!
